Women & Supplements

I was just wondering what kind of supplements women should be using if they are just looking to lose a LITTLE weight, and then TONE TONE TONE!!!! I don't want to use like something that will make me gain 7 pounds in muscle or something, that's not exactly what i'm looking for!

well, to 'tone' you need to reduce bodyfat, and to do that you need to watch what you eat, and how much. as long as you're taking in 10-20% fewer calories than your daily needs, you'll be shedding bodyfat.

the main supplements a woman should avoid are ones specifically targeted at increasing the male hormone testosterone.
most of those products don't work , or are sketchy to begin with, but as a woman you don't really want a lot of Test.

multivitamin
protein powder
fish oil
creatine hasn't been studied on women, but the basic nature of what it does implies it's effective for women too, but I'd take just 3g a day if you went with that.

You'll notice I didn't list fat burners or diet pills. you shouldn't need those, and a lot of them are bogus anyways.

also, what's wrong with gaining 7 pounds of muscle? that's not a whole lot, and muscle uses calories. Again, you are a woman...you don't have testicles or enough testosterone to get 'huge'.

do not confuse weight training and gaining muscle, with the female pro-bodybuilders that use anabolic steroids to achieve their masculine figures.

see the profound differences between natural and 'enhanced'? do NOT worry about getting 'too bulky and unfeminine'.

Thanks

THANKS for the help!!

I've done a lot of reading on this forum all over, and I have learned a lot, but not much of exactly what I want to know, so you really helped! But what exactly will a Multivitamin, Protien, and Fish Oil do for me?? Sorry if I'm annoying, I'm very curious :)

I guess there is nothing wrong with gaining 7 pounds of muscle.... Its just that Im 5'7'' almost 5'8''.... and I have always been 120lbs. or under. So I don't know, I guess I just don't really wanna weigh any more?? My legs and stomach are the places where I want to shed the little extra weight, and I wanna be more toned everywhere!

Hey Girl-
I take every morning a multi, B-12, Bcomplex, and Calcium. In place of some meals I have whey protein shakes with Omega-3 Flax oil in them. I don't like fish so I need to get my Omega-3 another way. The B-12 I noticed is helping me sleep better and I have more energy all day long. All you need really is a good multi and a good, clean diet, meaning clean eating. Everything whole and NO processed foods. Of course exercise too and If your trying to add muscle tone (just a little) like I did - then add in some weight training to your daily routine. I usually don't do cardio on same days I do weights. I wanted to lose some belly fat so I did alot more cardio when I first started. Once I started to lose the fat I started to shift more to the weights for adding muscle tone. I tried taking Creatine and the only thing with that I noticed was it gave me headaches sometimes and gave me a little more lifting power with the weights.
Hope that helps, I'm not an expert but I have been reading up on alot of this and I've been trying out different things over the past year. Good Luck!

The right supplements

Hi, I've tried a lot of different vitamins and supplements over the years but I've been able to narrow down my intake to the following:

Multivitamin (one that contains essential minerals as well)
Fish Oil (Essential Omega 3)
Beta-Carotene (antioxidant)
Redshift with Neuridium (Improves my mood and alertness)

I get exactly what I need with these without the jittery feeling from a lot of the supplements on the market. I also try to eat right and exercise on a regular basis. I have never dieted except while I was training. Eating right is more about a lifestyle change rather than simply dieting. Good luck!
