Women runners! Can we talk bras?

I haven't been running in over a year. Had some injuries that I was told would just get worse with time. Found out that, the doctors were recommending the wrong shoes! So, got me a new pair of shoes and tried them out. Sure enough 5 miles later and not a twinge! Hurray! :D

Well, 5 miles without a whole lot of support either :( and my girls were not happy...

I have worn champion bras in the past but looking for much more support now. I wear a 34D and would like to hear from some women who run distance and need support to do it.

I don't want a wire bra though, I have looked at a number of them and was really attracted to the moving comfort fiona bra:

has anyone tried this bra? any comments about it?

thanks :)

I recommend it.

Get one with maximum support and then buy a second one to wear over it :)

My GF had a boob op and the doctor told her that in future she should always wear 2 sports bras at the same time if running because the support they provide isn't adequate for large breasts

I tried the two bra thing, it was a no go. Plus I'm not sure how good that is for your breast. It's like having a log bouncing up and down and that almost more uncomfortable that them going individually....( sorry the only way to explain it) Basically it will cause the skin to stretch and them to sag later years ,and we don't want that :)

just thought i'd let you know that i have bought bras from road runner sports before and have been happy with them. the scoring or leveling that they use (1-3) to describe how well a bra will work has always been right on so my guess is that this bra would work really well for you.

hope it helps!

Threads like these is why i still love this forum.

We need more women to talk about bras and girl stuff.

Yep! All for that. He, he.

And the different methods of removal....dependent on the type will be good.

:)

Best wishes to all!

I think the brand that is most noted are the bras by Enell - and I think they are designed with larger breasted women in mind ( C-cups and up to E ).

If you go to the Enell web-site, they seem to suggest it is the most often recommended brand in magazines ( and cite mag quotes .....Oprah's, O Magazine etc. )

Below is a link from Runners World ( Uk ) in which readers ranked the Enell as the most popular ....

Thanks!

It does :) you know I decided to call them, and they said it is the one bra they see the most of. I was told that they have had a lot of marathoners and distance runners buy that one so that was encouraging.

thanks again!

cheers,
Diane

Thank you for taking the time to look that up! The enell was the other bra I was considering, but I wasn't sure about the eye hooks in the front and how comfortable that would be especially when I lift. I was also reading a review done by a number of athletes and they said it was over kill. There motto is "the bounce stops here" lol, I believe they live up to it :D

I have it bookmarked, I may try one of each and see how it is. It's not like I'm THAT big, but the plain 'ol sports bras just don't cut it.

Thanks again for researching that for me, it is much appreciated. :)
I really wish a few women who have worn the bra could add their two cents. Nothing like hearing from experience :)

cheers!

No problem. :)

Reminds me of a joke one of the women I used to run with ( in my running club ) told me.

She said she had a tattoo of a ' rosebud ' on her breast. And, that she wore the best sports bra she could find, so that 20+ years from now, she wouldn't have a tattoo of a ' long stemmed rose ' on her breast instead !;):)

As for getting some feedback from women who have worn the bra, I suppose you could sign up on a running forum or two and search this topic and or post a thread there.

LMAO! Guess I should be glad mine is around my ankle....:D

Again, thanks for the suggestion. I went to a few places, and it seems it really is a toss up between the two different bras. I think I am going to get both and see how they work for myself.

Your help has been greatly appreciated!

Cheers,
Diane

there's a review of sports bra in this months women health magazine, you can check it out on their website too.

LOL I just saw that the other day! I also looked at one in Runners world (I believe) and that's where I originally read that they felt the Enell was a bit much. I was just concerned about the eye hook front, but it seems no one mentions that, they only mention that it was ugly....lol :)

The reviews have been very helpful. Thanks for the suggestion :)

Cheers!

What do they mean by that exactly term " too much " ?

That a bra with too much support is somehow going to have an adverse impact on your ability to run comfortably ?

Or are they just talking about the relative cost of the bra ....for the benefits you get from it ?
