Women & diet challenges

I am curious to know how long other women are able to stick to their diets before they find that they fall off the bandwagon and have to start over again? At that point of falling off track.. what seems to get in your way of sticking to your diet plan? I know for myself I find that if I am overstressed or tired that I will fall off track or I will stay on track for about 3 months and then one night of going out will throw me off track and I will continue to sabotage my progress for the next month or so.
