Hi, I am a new comer and would like to chat with people from Pretoria regarding the Cohen diet. I have heard about it and done some research on the diet, but am still sceptical - you know that all diet programs promises the sun, moon and stars, but with no sustainable effects. I really need some support and motivation, as I followed a program from Dr Ackerman - a weight loss specialist from Lynnwood in Pretoria- I lost more than 18kg` s on his program, but guess what - yes, I have gained almost 20kg. I am depressed and somedays I just stuff my face with bread and peanut butter. Please help, tell me something else regarding the Cohen diet, something I did not read about on the website.

Till later,
Lola

Hi Lola!

Welcome to the forum! Its always nice to meet new members! You will soon get many hello's from all here on the forum! :)

Im sorry to hear that you are a bit down in the dumps! Its tough fighting the weightloss demons!

First of all-- Congratulations on your first attempt at loosing -- you did GREAT! If you now looking for yet another set of motivation.. you are at the right place!

Im was just like you and very skeptical about the Cohen's program and actualy I thought that it ws to good to be true! But with determination and will power I am now a in week 11 of my program and IT HAS DELIVERED 100% AND MORE! I'm 100% satisfied and so happy that I found and doing Cohen's! It has changed my life!

Unfortunately, you have to remember that you can only acquire the tools to a better life, but without application, we will get no-where! Cohens require 100% commitment! But what you put in is what you get out (in this case-you loose weight quickly and effectively) :)

You have realy nothing to loose besides fat LOL! for real! You must read through some of the post of the fellow members and you will soon see that there is truth here and it does work!

Always keep in mind, weightloss will eventualy be the result of a healthy and good lifestyle! If weightloss is your only goal the chances of you being disapointed is big, but if you change your prespective and see this a life change-- you will get so much more out of this program and actually a blue-print for your life! Success is achieved by doing the right thing everyday!

I hope that you will come to a decition! We here at the forum look forward to hearing from you and also your progress! YOU DONT HAVE TO DOUBT THE PROGRAM! IT WORKS! :)

Have a fantastic day

Why not just try the food they eat without paying the hundreds of dollars and getting the blood test? They all seem to eat the same thing, which seems to be yogurt or something light in the am, then lunch and dinner of a meat and veggies (no starchy veggies), plus 5 crackers and 3 servings of fruit. They seem to vary the grams per person but honestly I do not for a minute believe it makes a difference the exact grams as long as the meat is no more than a normal serving size (the size of one's palm).

Hi Lola

You probably could lose the weight any one of a dozen different ways if you had sufficient determination and self-confidence. However, what seems to be a common factor for most people is that they have huge issues to overcome, and often have made many previous attempts to lose weight successfully or otherwise. Rarely do people keep it off.

I have done this diet twice. The first time I paid up and got support. I was really sceptical and had tried and failed so many times, that I didn't believe it would work until it happened. I do not believe it is a miracle cure, but it did give me the successful keys to get weight off and keep it coming off in a way that worked for me and my lifestyle. I had a lot of issues to overcome, and a big lifestyle change overtook me towards the end, which meant I lost concentration on the diet and so put weight back on.

Second time around I have the belief it will work and the knowledge and self confidence to have a go myself without the support. I come on here for support, and to give support to others. My life is far from perfect, but I am chipping away at this weight. This time around I have realised what Starfish has already written - that it is about changing our whole lifestyle and attitude to food, and conquering head issues. No, there's nothing about "signing up" that will do absolutely everything for you - but it is sure nice getting advice, support and so on when you need it. And we share issues on here when we need to. If you have a system to stick to of some sort it is much easier to be successful.

The main thing to decide is how badly you want your health. Don't be only obsessed with the scales - be committed to a new and healthy you that also has the benefit of looking great at the end of it. I know I'm on a life journey that I have to keep working out.

Best of luck with whatever you decide. Read up, study, read medical trials and so on, and then commit yourself to a life changing experience of some sort that will make a healthy and happy you, which is what is important.

I'm not from South Africa, but Luvbug and Starfish are. They have gorgeous diaries with pictures in them, so pay a visit!

PS Lola. One of the keys to success on a diet is how you feel on the diet. If you feel good, feel happy, you are more likely to stick to it. If you want a completely independent thing to research, go to CSIRO's Australian website and check a trial they did. They subjected two groups to a diet of exactly the same number of calories each. One was "low carb" and the other a traditional diet. The results were surprising to them, so they then formulated a "diet" book based on their results. It allows more food than Cohen, but follows a higher protein/lower carb result. They found this resulted in more happiness, more success, and actually a better weight loss solution. I've read a lot of other research papers done indepedently on various aspects of weight loss, and the thing I wanted was something that elevated levels of serotonin, since I suffer not infrequent bouts of depression. I was also surprised about what I read about the role of Hgh and already knew a fair bit about the role of insulin. Feeling good is partly about eating the right things to give your body a good mix of the right hormones. If you are in the grip of what used to be called "Syndrome X" (which it sounds like you might be), you will feel very rotten and will find it difficult to "will" yourself out of your weight problem. I know because that was me for years.

However, I considered my chances of "helping myself" and sticking to a diet long-term first time around very small - that's why I committed myself to something I knew had been very successful with others I knew.

Anyway, do lots of reading, ask lots of questions and then commit yourself to something that sounds right for you and works for your lifestyle. Then find people to support you - that way you give yourself the best chance of finding a way out of where you are now.

Hi Lola!!!

A MASSIVE WELCOME to you!!! :D :grouphug:

Oh...how I know how you feel at this moment. I was there as well. The peanutbutter and the bread...the cycle of eating, guilt, feeling fat, eating, guilt, feeling fat...
It ain't pretty -- but the good news is, that it's totally IRREVERSIBLE!!
And Cohen's is an amazing, healthy and balanced diet.

You can believe every word that Starfish and Niyah has said -- it REALLYY does work.

Commit to it today -- you won't regret it :D

I am not trying to "sell" the program but I beg to differ from the statement that the exact grams does not make a difference. The diet is personalised based the hormone levels of each person. It is designed to balance hormones and stimulate HGH while still making the body think we are not starving. I am one person who can vouch for that because I tried to deviate by eating more (only protein and veg) and in the end I gained back what I lost.

Good for you Fornight sharing that. I absolutely couldn't care about the science of Cohen's I must admit. All I know is if you follow it 100% you will lose all of your excess weight. There are many people who put faith in things that I am very sceptical of (& I won't go there!) but I have absolute faith in the certainty that Cohen's works. It's not for the 1/2 hearted. It takes utter commitment & dedication. I can't stress how much it has changed how I feel about food. I eat for nutrition & no longer for all the wrong reasons. You have to want to lose weight & learn to eat healthily more than you want to stress eat or to eat rubbish. You must really want to become slim & healthy & you must think that you deserve to be so. If you do then I highly recommend Cohen's. As part of your journey it is important to learn to address the reasons behind us using food as a replacement for something that is lacking in our lives. Half of our problems are in our minds & often it stems from lack of self-esteem. Whatever program you choose Ursula if you then go back to doing what you did before then putting the weight back on is almost inevitable. "If you always do what you always did then you will always get what you always got" Cohen's maintenance guidelines are guidelines for life after Cohen's & are sound, sensible & will enable you to maintain your goal weight. Cheers for now, Cate.

Hormone levels vary from minute to minute, hour to hour, day to day (depending on a woman's cycle). Insulin levels rise and fall depending on when we ate and what we ate. I fully agree that hormones of all sorts (including leptin, which will obviously be as important as insulin at the least) can stagnate our weight loss. And I would not argue that ANY diet that restricts calories to the extent that Cohen's does AND restricts the sugar/insulin to that extent, can result in a significant amount of weight. I just wonder why anyone would pay apparently upwards of $700 to be given such a basic calorie/sugar restricted plan. Except that the knowledge of having paid so much may help people avoid "deviation". I do not believe that your hormone levels will determine whether you can have 10 grams or 12 grams of something and that the minor variation makes any sort of difference at all. Hence why I would try following the diet without paying all the cash.

Hi EVERYONE! Hi Blancita!

Well, from my point of few, also like Cate mentioned, I dont care much for the science behind Cohens and Im pretty also sure that its principaly very basic and easy! I do think that its a min. carb no min diet and none of us will deny that, BUT when I sighend up for Cohens program, I knew what I was getting, I was getting exactly what I wanted. I went looking for a program -found cohens.

Here's the thing, I do believe there are 'similar' or 'very close' programs that are like Cohens and they DO WORK! I dont believe that the only one available-- but if you do choose to do Cohens and you follow the program..IT WORKS! We are all human when dieting and to stay 'away' from different foods COMPLETELY IS VERY TOUGH! Its not encouraged to 'deviate' soley because your body do get use to the way of eating and 'shocks' when you eat out of the program-- it then just takes longer to reach your goal-- the promise of Cohens RAPID,HEALTHY WEIGHTLOSS IN MINIMUN TIME! So if you want that-- Do Cohens--:) Bottomline the program works... all you need to do is stick to it! In the process you are also able to deal and hopefully come to terms with a couple of eating demons, with is the main reason that we go to being unhealthy! Like also foos habit and eating style! (i talk out of my exprecience)

Its expensive, I wont lie- but I wanted something specific for my body and was happy to find Cohens! It gave me a tool to loose weight and I was ready to change my life! I will encourage anyone to do this program-- BUT if your hearts not in it-- You shouldnt waste your money--you must be prepared to change, thats all! :)

The battle of 'which is best' will never be won!-PEOPLE ARE JUST TO DIFFERENT FOR THAT :)

The reason you pay $750 is to get the attention. Since trying running a small business of my own several years ago (nothing to do with weight-loss!!) I never begrudge people what they charge when offering a "service". I just know all too painfully the hidden cost of keeping your doors open, and how many people expect service for nothing. So - this is like everything else. If you want service, and someone there to help, pay for it. If you have an iron will and excellent motivation, you probably won't be fat anyway - but if you are and can do it on your own, do it.

I believe the individual clinics are basically run as a small business at the risk of the person keeping the doors open. They were there when I wanted them - on the phone, to visit etc. So - evaluate - and buy if it suits. But if it doesn't and there's a better way for you, and you don't need service and support, find a cheaper option.
