Hello all! I have a questions about the diet I've been on, and what's happening, because it seems to be backfiring.
First, a little history. I am currently 50lbs overweight. I'm 6' tall and I weigh about 195lbs. My ideal weight is about 145-150lbs. I have had a long love affair with food (it has lasted 3 years!), and I'm ready to move on. What triggered this change of heart? A painful knee injury. During a recent follow up, I asked my doctor if my weight would negatively affect my recovery. Her answer = YES! QUITE POSSIBLY! I knew right then and there that is was time to start doing something, and start sticking with it!
I went on a diet immediately. I didn't ask for tips or research too much at first, and for the first two weeks, I ate about 800-900 calories a day, and of course foods that were low in fat. I was amazed when I lost 12lbs in just two weeks time. My confidence was high at that point, and I decided to join a weight loss related website. There I learned that I was eating way too little! I should've been eating a minimum of 1300 calories a day. So I increased my food intake, and have stuck with foods that are low in fat, high in protein, and began eating lots of fruits and veggies. But I haven't lost a single pound since I increased my calorie intake, which was 9 days ago. In fact, between Wednesday and today (Friday) I've GAINED almost 2 lbs!
How could this be? Each day I take in 1250-1350 calories, and 10-20 grams of fat. Is this because I can't exercise (my doctor said no way until the end of March, and only after a check up then)? But shouldn't I still be losing and not gaining if I burn 2400 calories a day? Almost twice what I eat? Or do I for some reason have to eat fewer calories like I was doing to lose weight? From what I understand, that's very unhealthy, and not something I want to do if I'll be harming myself!
Any ideas and opinions? Thanks!!
