Hi

I am new to this weight loss after giving up smoking i substituted my 15 a day habit with 4 mars bars a day. Subsequently i am now 15-17kg overweight. I started a diet regime on 2nd Jan 08 which consists of the following:
Breakfast: Fruit n fibre with skimmed milk
Lunch: Soup and bread roll or jacket pototoe with filling (chilli or baked beans) or a chicken salad
Dinner: pasta with veg or chilli or chicken stir fry

Snacks 3 fruit a day
Drink 4 cups of team with skimmed milk and 1 can of diet coke.

I go to the gym daily and do cardio and rowing i burn apprix 600 calories a session.

I havent lost a single pound in all that time and feel so deflated am i missing something here?

Any advice would be much appreciated.

Thanks

Hi

What is this? Team ??

Have you added up the calories in your daily intake? Most people on diets take in between 1,200 or 1,500 a day. First see if that is where you are at.

It also seems to me that you are eating a lot of carbs in one day.
Pasta, potato, bread. I know you don't eat them all in one day, but that could be a factor.

Does the chicken stir fry have oil?

There are a lot of hidden culprits that we never think of.

Also be patient. It's been 12 days. It takes a while to undo damage.

Do you lift any weights. Muscle burns fat, the more you have, the more fat you burn. You should try to mix up the cardio some. Walking or running, spinning, tae bo.

Dont forget the water!!!!! It is a must for weight loss.Your pee should be almost clear.:)

Oh yeah water. Very important.

Also when you do your cardio, are you doing HIIT?
That is one way to burn calories.

I lost almost 1 lb a week on an average of 1850 calories per day, so its generally an individual thing and is based on your current weight, how quickly you want to lose, your hunger level, and your workout schedule or how active you are, among a range of other factors. Personally I would try losing on a higher calorie intake, and if that doesn't work, then lower it a bit, rather than starting out with a low number like 1200.

Yeah I was on a 1200-1400 kcal diet also and it didn't really get me anywhere.. So now I've decided to try upping my calorie intake to 1600 and just see what happens. If I must at first gain weight too lose it so be it..
I'm just really confused with all the information from all over.. Hopefully I'll start seeing some results or at least find out whats working for me.

This is my first post, so hi everyone:)
I love this forum!

Congrats on giving up smoking. :)

Ditto: Water...drink lots of it!

How many calories a day are you having?
Too few and you will plateau too soon and have nowhere to go but even lower calories = not healthy!
Too many and you won't lose!

I would keep at it for another couple of weeks. It took me 3 weeks before I lost my 1st pound. Most of our bodies need to realize that we're changing our habits and it takes some longer then others. Good Luck :)

thank you

thank you some really great advice - i have worked out my calorie intake and it approximately 1350.

Team = typo error should be tea

I drink about 2 pints of water a day.

I'll stick with it cant be bad for me what i am doing

No offense surewin but no you don't. I lost 6 pounds this week and I had pizza for lunch yesterday. Now I don't expect to lose that every week, but it was the first week I really got back on track and I always lose a lot the first week, that's how my body works. Keep in mind, everyone is different.

Anyway, what you have to do is watch your calorie intake and get some excersise, it really is that simple. You definitely have to eat nutritious, don't get me wrong, but going on a diet where you are so strict about what you have everyday is bound to fail.

How I did it was, I went to this site (Thanks Wishes!) to figure out how many calories I need everyday and used this site to keep track of them, and niether one of them cost anything. Worked for me.

Hi,

You should be taking oats with fruit juice and fruit in the morning.

For lunch you must maintain a strict diet of high fibre vegetables as in carrots, purple lettuce and white lettuce, long beans all cut up without cooking.

Excercise is a must.

Hope you make it.

Surewin

This is just spam... I wouldn't worry too much about that crap post. Now what you posted is a sound approach and should be researched by the OP if he/she plans to succeed.

Smoking cigs uses up to 200 calories per day so when you quit, your body has to figure out how it is going to get rid of that suddenly acquired calories. I my self have quit 15 days ago. The first two days were brutal. I snacked every moment. I felt full and bloated. On the third day, I said "self, that is enough". If you have a craving, water is the best thing to drink. Go for a walk, and don't go for a walk to the corner store either to get a Mars bar... Walk the opposite way. Take care and .....
