Thanks so much for your kind words, PLB. My goal is to share what I've learned with whomever it might help, so spreading the word is much appreciated! And for those of you who read it? If it speaks to you at all and you get anything from it, please leave a comment on my site, I'd love to hear from you! Thanks!

Nice! Really enjoyed reading this.. It's quite informative.I don't track my food very often but it is important.

Thanks Frank for the information about tracking food. I have started and stopped tracking in the past, but my reasoning was because I found myself focusing too much on food throughout the day. However, I never really looked at as a means of empowering myself and helping me to stay focused on my weight loss goal by looking back at my food intake when I stopped lossing weight. To be honest when I think about it, I was able to lose weight when tracking my food intake. This has given me a different perspective on tracking my food intake.

The interesting thing is I always track my steps with my fitbit app. My focus has been 8000 steps 3 times per week, in addition to 2 times per week of exercise. However, that defeats the purpose if I am not truly tracking my food and water intake.

Glad you found it helpful, Shell. And you're hitting on something really important... people often overlook the POSITIVE elements of food tracking, because so often food tracking is one of those things that is couched in negative terms to overweight people... like it's something we have to do as part of our punishment for not being able to control ourselves/eat well in the first place. That's why we're often so resistant to using it as a tool.

It's hard to get past that, but it's really great when you can!

Sounds like things are starting to go well for you, so I wish you all the success in the world on your weight loss journey! If there's anything I can do to help, just shoot me a message!!!

Just wanted to drop everyone a quick note/update about food tracking. Remember, it is very important, but its just one tool in your weight loss toolbox. Along with being able to recognize which foods are your trouble foods, how to make small changes that stick, meal planning, etc.
In fact, I just added an essay on meal planning to my blog today, and I noted that we track our meals to see how we're doing, but we plan our meals to take action going forward to achieve our goals. So it's really all connected!
Good luck to everyone, and, as always I'm happy to exchange messages and answer any questions in private if people don't feel comfortable asking them in the public forum!
