It helps in metabolic processes- in fact it is vital.
It regulates body temp. and sodium levels
It stops you over eating.
It stops you getting ill or faint when training (250ml every 15mins)

the list is endless!

3 litres a day is a good amount- unless it is very hot or you are doing a lot of training.

Yeah, that's my problem. I used to drink about.....4 litres of water every 2 or 3 hour's. However, now that school is back, I have to go to the washroom ALL the time if I drank that much. And I've been told I am somewhat of a germaphobe, because I do not like to use the school toilet's. -_-''

As a result, I drink MUCH less.

It's always a vital part of muscles, it's best to drink plenty of water before training for peak performance.

I'd say 2 litres is more than enougth. Remeber also that many foods, particulary fresh fruit and veg contain alot of water. If you eat plenty of raw fruit n' veg aswell as the 2 litres a day and your water intake will be fine.

Also avoid diaretics such as caffience and alcohol, they will dehydrate you and will mean you'll need more water or be dehydrated.

Don't forget that juice, milk, (even though diuretic) caffeineted drinks, etc contain water.

Your body needs water, not necessarily glasses of water. :)

I drink so much water bottles everyday. I never really gotta leak as much as you and I probably drink more. Probably you need to get used to water or something. And also why water is because water is basically the only liquid without calories.

4 liters/1 gallon a day is the 'norm' for physically active people. That does include juice, milk, etc. plus actual water. Caffine is a mild diuretic, so I wouldn't count soda or coffee, but tea is low enough in caffine that it's negligable.

Every single cell in your body needs water...that's why it's so important.
Helps digest food. Helps dilute toxins (e.g. urine) as well as flush them from the body.

I studied that it was bad to overdrink it because you are urinating essential minerals but I dont think that amount is excessive.

yup yup school is definitely a bad envirnoment to drink water... first of all I gotta carry my 0.5 l bottle and then if I drink too much of it I have to constantly conduce myself to those filthy disgusting cubicles and even get uncomfortable at classes... =x
during vacation or at work its fine because I can go to clean bathrooms whenever I want

If you dont want to drink so much water then try adding squash.

When I started trying to drink more water I got a large mineral water bottle, it had 12 lines around the bottle and was square.

I stuck a small perm marker to the side and put a dot for each time I finished a bottle and a line for each time I went to the bath room. The 12 lines were the hours. Each bottle lasts 2days.

It seems like a lot of effort but once you get into the hang of it its easy. Its quite interesting to look at your results at the end of the week.

I'm not a scientist but I do believe that when you drink a lot over a long period of time your bladder gets bigger or stronger, this also makes it easyer.

I sure hope the bladder gets stronger. No doubt I'll get used to it but, I seem to be spending half my working day going to the toilet nowadays, lol! Ah well, its all for the greater good :)

According to the may issue of New Zealand fitness drinking water is essential to flush away toxins that are almost always present in people with small or large ammounts of belly fat. It says that it is best to drink bottled or distilled water as it has little or no natural toxins that contribute to the viscosity of belly fat. The best way to calculate how much water you need on an average day is multiplying your weight in kg by 0.033. Then you just add on whatever you need during exercise. Im not sure how much this is exactly I just drink a bottle during a workout about 800ml. I think Cannavaro answered this anyway.
