Why do the English insist on carbonating their water?

I just don't get it... I ask for water, and I get a crappy tasting, room temperature cup of bubbles. I'm just wondering if anyone prefers "sparkling" water over "still"?

god no, and its the reason I never liked AllSport drink back in the day.

it's just something that you grow up with and get used. personally, i hate it and that's all i ever get in Europe.

However, in southern Germany, they drink what is called a shorle ... half wine, half water ... it's one exception where I can handle water with "bubbles".

**slinks in** Dare I join? That's the only way I can drink my water is having it flavored and or carbonated.

The taste seems a little off to me as well...

I think what really bothered me was when i got back from the gym and had a bottle of water on my desk. I cracked it open and started chugging, only to have my nose feel like it stuffed with pop rocks.

Still water FTW...

I loathe carbonated water. Just ask for still :D
