Ive been the same weight now for about 6 years but I would like to tone up.

Ive started exercising which should help with the toning so my question is why is food such a big deal if im not interested in weight loss?

toning up is the by product of fat loss...

fat loss is the by product of reducing calories

fat doesn't turn into muscle...

if you want to build muscle - then you'll probably need to eat more calories...

I'm not sure if this is a serious question or not?

Mal hit the nail on the head with her response though.

Plus, you are what you eat. Exercise doesn't give you a free pass to eat whatever you want. A proper diet gives you a) better health and b) better physique.

Because if you don't watch what you eat you will ruin a lot of shirts?
J/K

visible muscles (toned) = no fat on top of muscles. You can't see muscles with fat on them. You can be ripped and scrawny. And muscular and fat. I am sure there is sticky that address the whole concept.

Thank u to the first person who replied ur answer was helpful.... To the other 2 just cause u know the answer to something doesnt mean everyone does. It was a genuine question I dont know y u even bothered replying.

My apologies... didn't mean to come across as rude. I figured everyone knew that eating good foods is important. I sometimes forget minors can join the forum.

gogetter22,

Silent inflammation is one huge reason why people should watch watch they eat. It is inflammation which falls below the level of perceived pain. The reason it is so dangerous (yes dangerous!) is that it can be occurring for years before it finally erupts as chronic disease. Silent inflammation is linked to heart disease, cancer, dementia, arthritis and diabetes, to name a few. Diet is the cause, and is also the cure of silent inflammation.

Thanks for the info... i had never heard of that inflamation.... scary im gonna look into it and try and eat better.

OK, so I displayed a feeble attempt at humor before my response but I added a "J/K" which is the forum equivalent of "bless their heart" which means that I can say anything I would like to and not be held accountable.

You're welcome gogetter22! Eating to lower inflammation levels also keeps you lean and strong. I've been eating that way for over 13 years.
