Why do I have pain in the back of my leg?

I'm a highschool girl and pretty athletic. I swim, run track and field, and run cross country. My real love is track and field. The season started about two weeks ago, and I have been going to the gym in the morning 3x a week. I end up going to the gym on two track days. Last Monday (the 23th), I was running 800's on the treadmill, and my leg was a little sore when I got off. I didn't think much of it, just stretched out. It mostly stopped bothering me but didn't feel totally normal. I missed track that night, but I had it on Wednesday. As I was sprinting 400's, I felt this ripping pain in the hamstring of my right leg, the same place it had hurt on Monday. I kept running, but afterwards it hurt so badly I laid on the ground for about five minutes. It was still hurting afterward, but I kept running for 3 more 400's. Today, I had another practice. I didn't run at all, just stretched out. I went to practice long jump, and just sprinting to the board hurt. I have a track meet on Saturday and I don't know what to do. I can still run, but I'm not anywhere near my best when my leg isn't hurting. When I'm sprinting, it's all I can focus on. I have a doctor's appointment today for some shots, and I don't know whether or not I should mention my leg since it's only been 5 days. It's a sharp pain in my hamstring, near the back of my knee. I looked up pulled hamstrings, but I'm not sure if it hurts badly enough, although it is very swollen compared to my other leg. What do you guys think? Thanks!

i think you should consult your doctor and discuss whole scenario with him, he will be in better position to guide you better.

It would be brave and mostly prestigious attempt if you make an attempt to run on the track. But think about it. First of all you would not achieve any result as you are not fit enough. Secondly it would increase your hamstring pain at an alarming rate.

All i want to tell you that you need to consult your doctor as early as possible and you need to follow his/her advice. Some hamstring problem is not serious enough. Only doctor would examine it and may tell you the best advice you need not me or any body else in this forum.

Just follow the advice of your doctor.
