Why am I gaining weight?

I've been eating around 1400 calories roughly for the past 5 months and have lost about 30 pounds.
Over the past month because of school and work I've been eating roughly 1500-1600 calories a day (still below my maintenance level) and have gained 2 pounds.

Stats: 5'8 male, 160lbs (Maintenance level is around 1800-1900 calories)

Have stuck to regular cardio 2-3 times a week, and strength training twice a week.

The only thing that happened differently was that I stopped doing weight training for the past 2 weeks and then started it all of a sudden yesterday.

Besides that and the fact that my calories slightly increased, I haven't been doing anything differnet.

Does anyone know why this is happening?
Thanks

1-You can gain 10+ pounds in a day easy and it not be fat.

2-Whenever you increase calories from too low of a deficit like you are in, there is usually a small regain (usually water weight) that levels back out the longer and better you feed.

3-We have given you tons of advice on what to do. Exercise and eat the right way and you will get the right results. Our answers are not going to change so either a) keep doing what you are doing with little to no results or b) change up your program in a more healthy fashion where yu may yes experience some weight flucs but in the long run achieve the best body comp.

None of that was meant harsh by the way, just really there isn't much more we can tell you over and over again.

Good Luck

How did you gain 2 lbs?

Did you just wake up today and weigh yourself and finding you to be 2lbs heavier than yesterday? Or have you reached a gain of 2 lbs over a longer period?

If it's overnight, or over a week or so, it's going to be meaningless weight (water, food you've eaten). If its over a longer period of time, then I'd take a closer look at your calorie intake, making sure you're EXACTLY spot on and not missing out on other sources, and I'd also re-check your maintence needs.

to begin with, is there a proper way for me to re-check my maintenance level, so far i've just been using some websites and 1800 seems to be the most common number for my weight and height. If anyone can help me on this part, I'd appreciate it as it will give me a start to reassesing my program.

Go to your local gym. The procedure I had done at mine was called Met-gym. You would wake up at the crack of dawn without eating or drinking anything, head to the gym, breathe into a small device for about 10mins, and then that device will give you a pretty darn exact number to how many calories your body will burn at a rested state, based on the amount of oxygen consumed in your breaths.
