Who is the most fit of these three?

I get confused as to what fitness is and what "being fit" is. So, help me out...

Who is the most fit of these three. Can you be fit by having one of these traits?

Bodybuilder: Assume no use of steroids or other enhancements. He obviously has great strength, but make no assumptions about his endurance or cardio strength.

Strongman: Assume no use of steroids or other enhancements. He obviously has exceptional strength, but make no assumptions about his physique (e.g., % bf). Assume he has good endurance and cardio to compete.

Bicycle Racer: Assume no use of steroids or other enhancements. He obviously has exceptional endurance and cardio and good leg strength.

i gotta plump for the cyclist

but jesus man look at that farmers tan:)

The bodybuilder you show is obviuosly highly chemically enhanced to get that level of development, and to get to the body fat level he is in that picture (contest level) he has done some really unhealthy dieting and drugs (beyond the normal chemical enhancements to add muscle mass), so he is probably extremely unhealthy in that photo (think the slew of top bodybuilders that have literally dropped dead immediately beforem during or the day or 2 after a show, and even Arnold had heart problems)...

The bicycle guy may be able to peddle fast all day, but he sure doesn't look healthy and could not probably stand up to a mugger if he had to...

So I would vote for the strongman competitor: they train for "functional" strength, have a fair amount of endurance, and the top guys are usually at a reasonably low body fat level (although I am sure there is a good bit of chemical enhancement in that sport as well).

Fitness is task specific. If you are a strongman your "fitness" or what you need to be in shape is going to be different than for a cyclist or a body builder.

All in all, being fit for your sport is what is important. People seem to think being a "jack of all trades" means that is the most fit. But those people are never great at anything.

Fitness then becomes "what shape you need to be in to do what you want to do" or "are you fit enough to be competitive?"

"being fit" is like "being cool" it's all subjective, unless you're talking about bb'rs because then it's them ;)

None of them: The regular "peeps" on this site are ones that define Ultimate fitness.

Look up the word, Fit. You will see all of our faces next to the word.

I think fit is assumed to be related to how aerobically capable to are, therefore the cyclist wins hands down.

I think i lot of confusion comes from the poms using the word fit to describe someone who looks good, we generally say hot. ;P

None of them look very healthy. They may be physically able to do very intense things, but none of them look healthy.

The bodybuilder is full of chemicals and has done some pretty scary stuff to his body to look like that.

The power lifter has too much fat and (maybe) will end up with heart problems and joint problems. (I say this because I know a former power lifter who ended up with heart problems and had to get shoulder surgery and knew a lot of other power lifters in the same situation).

The cyclist looks like he's about to die. He is severely underweight and if he ever had to fight off a serious infection or virus he probably wouldn't make it. He just doesn't have the excess weight for protection. He's also a poster-child for skin cancer. I'm curious if he's ever even heard of something called sunscreen.

So all of these guys may be able to preform amazing feats of strength and endurance, but they are probably shortening their lives and compromising the quality of their lives. For me, fitness is about health and none of those guys look healthy.

Yeah, what he said.

Sorry but its the immune system that deals with infections and viruses, body weight let alone fat doesnt really have anything to do with it.

a poster child for skin cancer? he may be at an increased risk but what makes you say that, the moles would have come up with suncreen or without.

No the low body weight does not cause the virus. But if he did end up with a serious illness he would be in trouble.

And the moles don't have anything to do with the skin cancer. I was talking about his arms. That's where he'll get it.

This is why the first one is "fit" and the dream body of many people .

I don't think a body like that is anybodys dream body.
It's not natural. Besides, that amount of muscle mass is not desired by 90% of the female population +
The one 5ft 6 body builder in my school year is now 'too big'. He's 160lbs.
There is a certain limit to how much muscles hot and that is WAYYYY past it.

Who would win in a fight?

Superman?

Or,

The Hulk?

I'm trying to say something here.
