Right, im sitting here, working out a shopping list to go shopping with tomorrow and trying to do a weeks plan of food but i have a few things that im not sure of and im hopeing that someone can help.

Would white pasta or a baked potato be ok for my evening meal?
For example:

Baked potato with skin, with ckn or tuna filling with large salad or veg
Bowl of white pasta with tomato based sauce with salad

Or should i stay away from baked potato and white pasta full stop and try to replace them with whole wheat pasta and sweet potato?

Or are these ok to be used in my meal plan, but just not at that time of day ie lunch time instead?

Please Help!

So confused lol thanks.

Also, i know that whole wheat pasta is better for you, but i havent tried it yet, so im not sure if i like it, so was just wondering if white pasta if a definite
no no?

Thanks

Nothing is a definite nono... in moderation.

Christ, people think they have to cut things out of their diet to lose weight, that's not the case, they just need to cut DOWN.

Thanks Matt,

Thats the answer that i was hopeing for:D i didnt want to cut everything out completely as im making a life style choice so it needs to be an eating plan i can stick with, so i will have baked potato and the pasta just once each a week.

Right back to my shopping list.

Thanks!

Hello Elise
There is nothing wrong with white pasta or potatoes, it's just that the carbs in white pasta are broken down very quickly providing instant energy, wheras wholemeal pasta contains more complex carbs that provide slow release energy keeping you full for longer.

Potaoes are a good source of energy and I certainly eat them most days. My favourite way to eat them is to cut them into wedges boil them for a few minutes then place them on a baking tray and drizzle olive oil over them. Roast for about 40 mins. Olive oil is a healthy fat, just eat them in moderation!

I just recently switched to multigrain pasta instead of white and I find that they keep me far fuller. It (not many) less carbs than a serving of white pasta, but the brand I buy also has 7 grams of fibre per serving. It tastes better to me as well.

I guess the main thing though is that pasta is very high in calories if you're eating too much of it. The kind I buy 85 grams of dry pasta is 310 calories- which is fine if I portion it out and cook and eat it just like that, you just have to be careful.

I have no problem with potatoes. I think they have plenty of nutrition and are worth eating in moderation.

exactly wat matt said...dont cut out...cut down lol...simple
