Hi, im thinking of joining a gym soon. Theres a few in my area but all have different apparatus, so im not entirely sure what to look for

Anyone know any particular exercise machine/apparatus that help tone the legs and stomach area, and also the muscles under your breasts to help firm them up  Cheers

I am sure that each of these gyms has the equipment needed to help you reach your goals. I would go with the gym that you would feel most comfortable exercising in. Finding an environment that you feel good about is always a plus.

Treadmill :) Stairclimbers & stationary biking may help too, but without keeping your arms in motion it won't help muscles in the breast area

I want to lose the fat above my stomach - any suggestions! I go the gym and am losing weight everywhere else except there!

Many times the fat around the waist is the last of the fat to go. It depends on your body shape and your sex though. Generally men tend to store more fat around their waist and women tend to store more fat around their hips. This can vary with body shape. Your best bet is to continue exercising. One very important factor in weight loss that is often overlooked is muscle development. You will continue burning calories hours after a weight lifting session. The bottom line is that muscle requires more calories to maintain, so if you have muscle your metabolism will increase and you will burn more calories at rest. Also, weight loss is basically about calories in versus calories out. maximize calories out and minize calories in and you'll lose. Keep doing cardio and strength training and you'll lose that last little bit of fat that you have left. Also, restrict fat. It has 9 cals per gram vs 4 cals per gram of protein and carb. Fat has more calories so limit it. The last bit of fat is the toughest to lose. Stick to it and be patient. Weight loss takes time. Think of this---- 1lb of fat contains 3500 calories, so to lose 2 lbs a week you have to create a 7000 calorie a week deficiency. Thats 1000 a day. Its tough to get that from diet alone. Stay in the gym and it will happen. Good luck:)

Hi,
First off, if you're new to the gym you may want to hire a personal trainer...either one at your gym or online. This will be good so you can learn how to properly perform exercises and so you can have a program catered to you that will help you meet your goals.

There really aren't any specific machines you should use. You should work all your muscle groups, not just the ones you want to work on. That can easily be done by using free weights. Cardio can be done on any cardio machine at the gym or you can do your cardio outdoors.

Hope this helps. Let me know if I can answer any questions.

I agree with Sarah, a personal trainer is the best way to learn proper form and technique. I had hired several trainers and my results were always dramatic and worth while.

If you can't afford a trainer, perhaps you can get a staff member to show you how to use some of the machines. Some gyms are cool like that.

Choose a gym that will work best with your schedule, one with good parking and one where you feel comfortable. That way you won't have any excuses not to go.

Thanks guys, I appreciate your help! I have thought about a personal trainer before but I dont want someone standing watching me exercise but it might be useful to just get an exercise programme that will target all of my problem areas!

I never realised fat contained so many calories! Thats quite disgusting! I will definately be checking the fat content of everything I eat from now on!!
