Weight-Loss Which Supplements?

Weight-Loss

First off, let me say I am very new at all of this. I am 18 years old and I am looking to possibly get a gym membership and start lifting weights. I am going off to University in september and will have access to a 24 fitness facility. I was wondering if I could get some recommendations on any supplements I should take, if any.
If possible, I would prefere a supplement that would help me gain muscle mass but not get fatter. Like I said I am really new at all of this and I do not even know if what I am asking makes sense. I came to this forum looking guidance. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

I use Whey Protein, which is used to build muscle.

Hi Andersg,

The key really to you gaining muscle is to stimulate it first through resistance training.

If you're new to training, and have not used weight before I would personally advice striving for a balanced diet, with good lean protein sources (meat, fish, nuts, dairy etc).

Aim to get sufficient calories and see how you get on with that.

If your new to training, the first months are where you can make the biggest gains.

Ensure a combination of wholegrains and complex carbs, good healthy fats from sources such as olive oil and oily fish and lean protein sources.

Focus on getting stronger in the gym, using compound (multi joint exercises) and you should do well without the need for any supplements.

If you really are set on supplements, then a good whey protein could be used immediately post workout to be eaten with some carbs like banana's, jam sandwiches etc.

Hope that helps

Personally I take the following:

Multivitamin
Fish Oil

I also sometimes use Protein powder to get more protein for the day. Lean protein is pretty important for retaining or adding muscle.

That's pretty much it!

I've heard creatine isn't bad if you're really working on your muscles but it's not needed.

Well, I have been taking a multivitamin since as along as I can remember. I am not going away to university until september so that means that I will not has access to a gym until then either. I do pushups, situps and crunches everynight at home before bed. If I was to buy some whey or protein powder now and took it would it make me get fat if I am not going to the gym while taking it? Which do you recommend, whey or protein? or is there a difference? lol like I said I am very new at all of this.

Thanks again.
