Which is more effective for losing fat?...

Running in the morning (before you eat), without any calories in you. Or running in the middle of the day, but longer, and more intense.

I've been waiting for this to come up again, since abear beat me to it last time. Here is part of an article written by Alwyn Cosgrove. (Click his name for the full article.)

2) FASTED CARDIO

Are you ****ing kidding me? Seriously, are you ****ing kidding me? Why are we even talking about this?

Let's take two twins, both 200lbs, both doing the same training program, taking the same supplements, and following the same nutrition plan in the hopes of getting lean.

One difference, though: one of them eats 2 eggs and does 30 minutes of cardio three days per week. The other does 30 minutes of cardio, three days per week and THEN eats 2 eggs.

So what's the magical difference in terms of fat loss after six months? Drum roll please...

I'll tell you — no ****ing difference.

However, whenever you bring up this question we get a ton of responses saying, "This is exactly the information I needed!". Oh **** off. The reason you are still fat is because you couldn't decide to do cardio on an empty stomach or not?

30 minutes of steady state cardio will burn about 300 calories. Three times per week – 900 calories. Add that up for 26 weeks and we get a whopping: 23,400 calories.

Or 6.6 lbs of fat.

In six months.

If doing it fasted, burned 30% more (which it doesn't), you're looking at another 2lbs of fat in that same six month period.

Or an additional 0.07 pounds per week.

And for those of you who say – I do fasted cardio but I have a small scoop of protein first, then you're NOT DOING IT FASTED THEN, ARE YOU?

Fat people finish marathons all the time. Aerobic training doesn't do a hell of a lot for real world fat loss. Even if you're hungry.

Randy - Check into HIIT (High Intensity Interval Training) and more strictly monitor your diet for weight loss. To answer your question....more intensity is better.

I actually believe that running in the morning would be more effective because when I was at boot camp (I'm 15, it was 2 week experience thing) we had to wake up near 6:00 Am and run/jog for an hour until the seargent was done yealling at us. He said that this helps boost your metabolism for the rest of the day.

Hey Detroit Muscle that thing is hilarious,BUT... I thought when your hungry your body feed off your FAT for the energy you need. But this might be for starvation. After your body runs out of fat, it start to work the muscles. Remember hearing that about Why the Ethiopian kids are skin and bones.

The only benefit is not being awake enough to fully process what you're doing. The fat loss is inconsequential. And if you don't have calories in your body, chances are you won't be able to run as long, as far, or with the same intensity. Moral? You will get the most out of your workout if you eat a couple hours before. Mid-day, more intense will get you better results.

It does not matter what time you exercise, or what you eat before or after in terms of fat loss. What does matter is how much you exercise, how much you eat, and the intensity of your workout. If you're exhausted in the morning at 6 A.M., I doubt you're going to put in as much effort as fully energized at 4 P.M.

Organized sports or workouts (e.g. boot-camp-ish things) will burn more calories (if you're training with people who are more advanced than you), because you'll be competing and trying to keep up with those people, not because it happens in the morning.

I am a big fan of fasted cardio simply because I've tested it and it works.
