Whey Protein

Would taking protein shakes on days that i don't workout do anything, like would it still help build muscle mass or would it pretty much just be a waste? And if it would help when should i take it, ie. in the morning, before bed? Possible negative effects?

definitley take protein on non training days, it provides bcaa's and and steady stream of protein throughout the day(to get this use a slow digesting protein such as casein) and you should drink a shake or ingest this protein at least 2 times on non training days, preferably between meals

Your diet should stay the same regardless if its a workout day or not. Perhaps on non-workout days you may want to eat your protein instead of having too much of it coming from protein shakes. For example, on workout days I usually take 2 scoops of protein powder and on non-workout days I only take one, but regardless I still consume 210g-225 of protein. I don't think it really matters when you take your protein on non-workout days. I usually take one scoop in the morning or afternoon, but I've never taken it at night. On workout days one before and one after workout.

Thanks for the advice guys. And wacky, i heard that it was good to have a shake before you go to bed to prevent protein breakdown while you sleep, not sure if this matters on non workout days though.

Possibly, I haven't heard about this though. It is interesting and I'd like to know more about it :). I don't know if I want to drink 3 scoops a day though, its not exactly the best tasting thing ever :p
