Hi.
I've been searching and considering start using whey protein but i have doubts if i actually should take it now considering my goals and where im at.
Im almost at goal and i have less then 10 lb to lose. I started adding weight training to my workout in addition to cardio( im actually doing chalean extreme and also i add cardio on the circuit days, so i wear my HR monitor and it says i burn around 600 cal with my workouts and my bmr is 1560).
So my main question is, can i take whey protein even considering my goal is weight loss? I just have to work that in my calorie allowance or is more complicated than that? I was also interested in this because im vegetarian ( ovo-lacto) and i do eat dairy and eggs, but not a lot everyday( like one egg a day, sometimes i skip one day) so im probably not getting enough protein i dont know, especially now for the new workouts/weights.
Thanks

You just have to work it in to your calorie alotment. The primary reason people take whey for weight loss is 1) it's 'lean protein' and 2) it's quick and easy to make. So for you, the main reason for you to add whey protein is that you're worried you're not getting enough protein and want more in your diet without adding the extra calories that come from the fat and carbs in beans and lentils etc. (although egg whites are another option)

So as long as you're staying under calories, you should be perfectly fine having some whey :)

Thank you for your awser.
Im looking in to the different types and brands out dare but im lookin that is 100% whey and with bcaa. I hope i will like it and help me get good results.
Thanks

There is no need in getting whey proteins. While they are good for loos weight they have calories too and you need calories at a very low level. So you would better eat something with proteins that will fill your stomach.

in my words Make water your favorite drink. A person must have a minimum of 8 glasses of water in a day. Avoid taking soft drinks or carbonated beverages; moreover replace them with water. Water helps in reducing weight in the most effective manner.

Whey Protein is one of the best sources of protein you can get .... If you think you need it in your diet then take it . Make sure its a low carb tho. TMU OR TMF do great low Carb Whey Protein around 300 cals per shake . I would use it post and pre workout or just post upto you .

Pre workout -half a shake water
post workout - half a shake water
post + 40mins- half a shake

Hi,
Thanks for all the answers and im sorry that i didn't come here sooner =/
I did get the whey protein and have been taking for two weeks and worked it in my calorie allowance. It's 230 cal per shake and i do it with skim milk, i did tried with water but it i didn't like and it was a pain to drink it and with milk it delicious ( it's weird how different it can taste, but maybe i will try it with water again) and i drink it after my workout( as pre workout/breakfast i eat a little bit of oatmeal, i make it for around 190 calories). After that, and because it's all in the morning, i wait around 1 hour and half to have lunch.
Im feeling good with it and haven't gain weight because it's in my calorie allowance, i actually lost a little, not much and i don't think it's the shake because my weight loss has been slow this past month and it might be the fact that i started adding some weight training with the cardio and up my calories.
I think the whey protein it's good, especially for someone like mt that only gets protein from eggs and dairy and not meat/fish, to have a supplement and also something that can help me preserve muscle mass since i've lost some during this weight loss process and it's also something that tastes good and i look forward to drink after my workout.

It's amazing how much of a difference using milk instead of water can make for the shakes! I try to use half water/half milk if I'm really worried about the calories but... the taste difference is huge.
