Whey powder and hunger issues.

Ive never had the perfect eating habbits. Usually ill eat the 3 square meals with some chips or popcorn as a snack in the afternoon before a late dinner.
Ive always made sure to eat a good breakfast, even if i wasnt really craving anything, just to keep my metabolism in line and never to go on a crash diet.

I got this whey powder a week ago and since i weigh 170lbs its been said that i should take 170g of protien, or 8 scoops (20g/90cal) a day.

Now the problem is, i wake up and jog for about 45mins, get ready for class and mix water with 4 scoops of whey (80g protien, 360 calories) and drink that all up before school starts. Then i figure i should eat a light breakfast, but im already full, if not stuffed. Yesterday i tried to eat some pancakes and i ended up vomiting them up before i got to school i was so full.

I go through-out my day, and dont have any hunger issues til lunch(1-2pm) and then i usually get some subway or something healthy from the cafeteria, then i finish school up and head strait to work still satisfied on just my morning shake, and my lunch.

work ends (7pm) and I go to the gym right across the street and do a variety of different exercises depending on the day, i get home (830pm) and make another shake with water and 4 scoops since its right after my workout, and i want to try and eat something else, but im just simply not hungry..... i can force myself to down something small, but its not needed really, and i sorta get sick to my stomach. usually ive just been relaxing on my computer or doing my homework while snacking on some fruit snacks or popcorn til i go to sleep.

My question is, since im already consuming 700+ calories from the protien shakes, and eat a decent lunch... am i hurting my metabolism extremely?
i cant stress enough that im not starving myself at all, and i wouldnt mind losing some weight where i can... am i going about this wrong or should i still force myself to eat a lot of little snacks throughout the day.

height, age?

You should get some complex carbs in you in the morning - oatmeal, whole grain bread etc

I would think you need at least 2000cals at that weight.

5'11, 21, weighed 172 as of this morning.

i tried to eat a few pancakes yesterday and they ended up making me sick.

ive been trying to eat some yogurt or cereal but each time i do i get this bloated feeling like ive eaten 3x my weight.

ive got a bunch of nutri-grains in the pantry, i could try and snack on those throughout my early classes

Your supose to have 170g's TOTAL, that means add in your foods % protein. If you are taking in 170g's of whey then that means you are saying your food is worth 0g's of protein!

Forgot to point that out sns2317 :) His diet needs a lot of work frankly but some people expect it to be spoon feed to them. Not sure in this case but to learn about fitness and nutrition you have to invest time and learn.

its quite obvious that i just randomly tossed a coin and decided to get some protien whey.
as well as say that i should take 170g of protien because it sounded good...

I stated bright and clear that i just got this product and i dont have perfect eating habbits by any means........ cut me some slack man =x

thats a good point about food having protien =p im not eating a whole lot, and i figured a little more protien wouldnt kill me, especially since im trying to get a little stronger.
How many scoops do you think is an ideal amount for me?

First thing I noticed is you're taking in 80 grams of protein in the morning! WAY too much. An 80gram protein drink would make me puke too! I think they say the body can handle 40-50 grams of protein at a time (correct me if I'm wrong and I know it depends on the size of the person.) You should do your running then make a protein drink with two scoops so you're at 180 calories then something with good carbs like oatmeal to go with it. If you want to keep your metabolism up calculate how many calories you should take in in a day and divide it by 6 meals. Remember don't get all your protein from shakes. I've been eating deli turkey meat lately. Taste good, high protein, and low fat :D

1quick1 - not entirely true about how much protein can be absorbed in 'one sitting'. The average person probably can't do much beyond 50g of protein, the rest would get stored as fat most likely. But 280 lb bodybuilders...their bodies have adapted over the years to utilize more protein because the body needs it.

...but you are very correct that keldorn doesn't need 80g first thing in the morning.

Keldorn, best thing is to divide your 170g of protein a day evenly among 6 meals. So roughly 30g per meal to give you a startign point.

Yeah i was kinda of thinking/typing to myself lol

Get some chicken breasts, tuna and eggs in your daily meals also. You shouldn't rely on all shakes.

While proteins are important you will want to start to watch your carb and fat intake also but its a good start, I still haven't gotten the diet nailed down myself, its a pain really i much rather train and let someone prepare all my meals...Oh well i guess i will have to get rich for that :)

I mixed 3 batches of shakes with 2 scoops each (40g)
1 after my morning run 1 for after lunch and 1 for after my workout at night.

I cant really afford to go out and buy a bunch good foods, i usually just try and grab something decent my parents put in the pantry. Plus im never home except a few hours at night before i go to bed.

I drank half the shake that i normally drank, and was able to eat a few pancakes without getting sick at all, another shake after my lunch and i feel ok.

Im definately no 280lb bodybuilder so ill try and stick to ~100g of protien from my shakes and my same meal plan with a little less calories

So tell your parents to start buying better, healthier foods. You honestly think your parents don't want you in good physical shape? You're not asking for steroids or a case of beer...just skim milk, chicken breasts, fruits, veggies, and brown rice.
