Whey or egg protein?

Which is 'better?'

I know the answer to that question is going to be subjective, but which one would you recommend for someone who wanted to stay as lean as possible while they put on muscle? I'm leaning towards egg because it's supposed to have less fat, but whey's apparently the most popular. I'm kind of stuck and don't know what to choose.

Well, you're right that the answer will be subjective :)

Read the ingredients and nutrition label on the package... That should give you the information that you need to make your choice.

I have been cooking about 5 eggs a day for the last few months and i've noticed i've been putting more muscle on but, without gaining weight. For some reason it's worked better for me compared to when i used whey in the past. But then again, my diet and training regimen were different back then too.

I'm sure either will work for you.

Egg protein is high quality and contains all the essential amino acids. Individuals concerned with lactose intolerance should consume egg protein. If egg protein powder is not available, egg whites are the next best source.

To put this in a not-so-lengthy explanation; the quailty of a protein is rated along 4 different catagories: biological value, protein effiencey, net protein utilization and chemical score. Whey protein out-ranks egg protein in all 4 catagories. Both are complete proteins meaning they contain all nine essential amino acids.

IMO, whey is perfect for post work out nutrition; it has a short time for gastric empting; the nutrients are released into the bloodstream much faster than any other protein source.
