Where is my willpower?

Hey guys. I'm a 22 year old female. I'm 5'9 and weigh 155 lbs. I was always very active when I was in highschool, but my activity has diminished greatly. I'm slowly losing my toned, low fat body. I was always one of those people to eat whatever I wanted, but that is now gaining on me. I have no willpower. I will be a die-hard fitness freak for a week or two and I will see some physical changes, but then something will happen. . .I will eat a fry, or a candy bar. Then my mind will say, "Hey, you already ate that fry, why not another. . .then another." I go into a spin that I can't stop. Before I know it, I'm back to where I started. Help! I'm knowledgable when it come to diet and fitness, I just can't seem to stick to it long enough for a change. I want to stick to it for life!! Any advice? Inspirational books, websites, any tools you guys use to help yourselves?

Yeah it happens

well, it's rough - and there are no quick solutions. I lost some weight after highschool and it's way easier to lose than to keep off. What the websites say is "think health". So what your body needs rather than what just tastes good. But that doesn't work for me either. All I can say is if you eat one bar don't let it turn into a binge, I always do the same thing as you, I say "whatever I might as well now". but really one bar is still better than 5. I find it helps to chug a glass of water or just go occupy yourself, but it's still not really easy. Sorry I couldn't help more.

twanda -- if you find your willpower, let me know....maybe mine is right there with it :(

I work hard at the gym, but have NO willpower where food is concerned. I have such a sweet-tooth.

Good luck - hope you find yours soon!

Twanda,

Onr thing that would help you would be to start being conscious and taking control of what you think. You could even try a meditation every day for a few minutes, just try to think about one thing for the whole time. If your mind goes somewhere else, just without further thinking or self-doubts try to stick to the thing you chose. It could be something like a matchbox or anything like that, preferably something simple and boring.

Now, with taking steps on being conscious and taking control of your thoughts, you should understand that it always better to eat something rather than think of it. You'll become psychologically attached to the food with thinking about it. So if you want not to do something, the first step is to not think of it.

Don't let yourself to any self-doubts. I can guarantee this simple, though hard step will greatly improve your self-discipline, if enough energy will be put to it.

Good luck,

vp
