Sport Where do you get your carbs from?

Sport Fitness
I was looking at a site online that shows you how many grams of carbs there is per 100g of a selection of vegetables. It seems that lots of veggies have only a few grams / 100g. Exceptions are beans, yams, etc. I figured that if I wanted to get 300g of carbs from veggies that I would, for example, have to eat 8kg of onions. Obviously I'm just using that as an illustrative example.

I have also read about brown vs. white rice. From the reading I did the only difference is in the nutrional value and the fibre content. If my diet is already sufficiently meeting those goals, is there any other reason not to eat white rice? I typically eat basmati rice.

I only eat real carbs at dinner; I don't count cabbage or apples for example. But for dinner, I'd have white rice or bread..just not a lot.

why would you be trying to get most of your carbs from vegetables? vegetables are very low calorie foods.

i get most of my carbs from porridge or other types of cereal, bread, beans and occasionally pasta and rice.

Because they are complex, low gi carbs and because they are low calorie.

And it depends on your goals. for fat loss, carbs from veggies is wise.
for bulking, go with brown rice, old fashion oatmeal, whole wheat pasta, potatoes...the starchy carbs.

i know that - i already said they're low calorie in my post. but unless you're on some kind of extremely low carb diet you're gonna have to eat bucket loads of veg if you are depending on them as your main carb source.

I don't actually, I was just curious to see where people get their carb cals from. I read "somewhere" that rice and pototoes should be avoided in preference to vegetables with colour. So I looked into the actual numbers and noted that I would need to eat an awful lot of veggies if I was going to get my carb cals that way. As it happens I get most of my carb cals from bread and rice as well. Just looking for ways to change up my diet in a good way. :)

ah i see. veggies should provide you with some of your carbs but like you say, you'd have to be eating tons of them if you were depending on them as your main carb source. i suppose it depends on how many carbs you were looking at having per day, but personally i don't think i'd be able to get enough from just veg ( and i'd miss my bread and cereal too much :))

Per Dr. John Berardi, you should be eating a couple cups of veggies with each feeding. You should eat some starchy carbs around wo time, but no other time.

bread/rice basically =D

as well as vegetables/meat
