when to increase weight

I want to gain some muscle and I have a question on working out??

When do I know to increase the weight I'm lifting. In other words how do I know to increase my weights after doing 4 sets of 10 reps each.

I'm gonna start keeping a log on what Im doing from now on, but the only question I had was when i should start lifting more weight to increase my muscle.

I believe the general concensus is that if you can complete at least 2 more reps than the prescribed amount with proper form, you should increase the weight...basically, when it becomes easy to reach 10 reps, bump the weight...the beauty of simplicity, huh? ;)
 
nothing more difficult than that

pick a weight that you fail at for about 10 reps after warmups.

if you hit 10/10/10/10, increase

then you'll probably do 10/10/9/7

stay with that weight until you hit 10/10/10/10

overload and progression, ahhh the simplicity of the basics
 
you have just overloaded your muscles. stay with that weight until you get 10/10/10/10

then increase, thats progression
