What’s up with MySpace?

Does anyone have a MySpace page? I have heard some crazy things about internet predators on MySpace and I have had strange things happen to me. I have been getting friend requests and before I can approve them or even see who it is, their profile has been deleted from the site. I am wondering if MySpace is deleting those profiles because the people are predators. So, I changed my profile to private after reading about the private profile settings on the NetSmartz411 site and everything has been fine since -no strange friend requests. :eek: Has anyone else had a problem or know what these deleted profiles are?
 
Yeah, I got those friends requests all the time. They are just spammers. Also if you start seeing bulletins or comments left by you that you didn't write, just change your password. You can also go into settings and request that any one who sends you a friend's request must type in your last name or email address.
 
best hing to do is ignore any friend reqest if they did not send you a message first....means spammers.

Also your password must be unique, Use, some Capital letters and Numbers..

Like this... fiTN11ss...That password is hard to crack, most people put the numbers on the end and caps on the end, by placing them in the middle or crazy, will make it more secure.

Best of luck. there are predators everywhere, just use common sense and protect the little ones.
 
Thanks! I am trying to take every precaution with this site. I actually just changed my password and put numbers in the middle, thanks for the tip MellowGAman! And you are so right, predators are everywhere and the little ones need to be protected online. Happy there are experts out there like NCMEC helping to do this!
 
...Despite the fact that TJ Maxx chains recently had several thousand credit card numbers stolen, and an American University had the same problem with several thousand breached Social Security numbers...yeah, "American" paranoia is totally unwarranted.

As for the little ones, they are targeted through My space and other "chat" venues.

I'll give you a chore, Create a MYSPACE account, pretend you are a 14yr old girl living in America somewhere.....see how many men hit on you.

I don't live in paranoia, but I am not going to turn a blind eye to my childrens welfare, I simply could not live with my self if I could have prevented something happening to my daughter or son's.

Perfect example I have a co-worker whose son died at the age of 7 due to a car accident. The son was not wearing his seatbelt, everyone else was fine in the car, but the son, all he had to do was put ont heseat belt and he would have been fine, but his mother didn't want to "deal with the trouble" of making him wear it in the car......now he is gone.....It's the simple things that can make a difference
 
Miss America recently did that because her platform is internet safety. She posed as a teenage girl in chat rooms and eleven men met her in person (thinking they were going to meet a teenager) and were arrested. I think that is sick and I am happy they are catching some of these predators and protecting young kids and teens from these people.
