I love crystal light. however, I notice when I drink the stuff I feel bloated, "puffy" and more thirsty. The ingredients don't really reveal the culprit. There are 5 calories in 8oz, no carbs, no sodium, nothing! With it being mostly water why would it make me more thirsty? What is in the stuff thats so lethal!?

Yup, it's the aspartame. That stuff makes me feel terrible.

??

Is crystal light bad? All i drink now is water with lemon or some version of crystal light. Its so easy in those single serving packets, just grab a bottle of water, mix it in and you're good. I think i drink like 2-3 bottles a day (1 packet per bottle). Its a lot of water, but does the crystal light pose a problem for weigt loss? its got almost nothin in it!

Look at it like this...

What throws off crystal lite is that it is "Convenient". How could something be sugar free and add flavor? They use a sweetener. Ok what sweetener is extreamly sweet and does not require much.... hmmm aspartame? Its cheap and sweeter than sugar...

HEY isent aspartame in diet cokes? I know cokes are bad! Anyone with any knowledge of nutrition can tell you to steer clear of aspartame.

If it's cal free, carb, free, sugar free (whatever it is) you can clearly see that something is up.

Here is some of one of my fav articles on aspartame...

aspartame accounts for over 75 percent of the adverse reactions to food additives reported to the FDA. Many of these reactions are very serious including seizures and death. A few of the 90 different documented symptoms listed in the report as being caused by aspartame include: Headaches/migraines, dizziness, seizures, nausea, numbness, muscle spasms, weight gain, rashes, depression, fatigue, irritability, tachycardia, insomnia, vision problems, hearing loss, heart palpitations, breathing difficulties, anxiety attacks, slurred speech, loss of taste, tinnitus, vertigo, memory loss, and joint pain.

According to researchers and physicians studying the adverse effects of aspartame, the following chronic illnesses can be triggered or worsened by ingesting of aspartame: Brain tumors, multiple sclerosis, epilepsy, chronic fatigue syndrome, parkinson's disease, alzheimer's, mental retardation, lymphoma, birth defects, fibromyalgia, and diabetes.

Aspartame is made up of three chemicals: aspartic acid, phenylalanine, and methanol. The book "Prescription for Nutritional Healing," by James and Phyllis Balch, lists aspartame under the category of "chemical poison."

Yup, def the aspartame. Dump that stuff.
If you want a delicious, light, no calorie, no carb beverage, chug some ice cold water down your throat. Your body will thank you for it!

Okay, point taken. I'm trying to be 100% water anyway so its a good time to just dump it. It is good on a really hot day but the effects I feel from it just aren't worth it. thanks everyone

What kind of effects are we talkin here? I drink the stuff daily, crystal light is all i drink, besides water. I dont ever feel any side effects from it. I normally dont have any issue drinking water, but i do like some kind of taste in my drinks.

Read my post above and the article I linked.

There are other options for a flavored very low cal drink besides Crystal Light too if you look around. Wal-Mart's store brand (Great Value maybe?) is sweetened with Sucralose instead of Aspartame so that might be easier on your system. You can whip up a nice beverage with Lemon or Lime Juice water and the sweetener of your preference too.

Dangers of Aspartame - What You Don't Know Can Hurt You

Regarding the author of your article:
Joseph Mercola - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Read the section on criticism. Some of my favorite words are quackwatch, alternative medicine, holistic practitioner, lawsuit...etc. quote:

"Mercola gives the lie to the notion that holistic practitioners tend to be so absorbed in treating patients that they aren't effective businesspeople. While Mercola on his site seeks to identify with this image by distinguishing himself from "all the greed-motivated hype out there in health-care land", he is a master promoter, using every trick of traditional and Internet direct marketing to grow his business '

Nowadays you can find an argument for almost anything on the net, put an MD or PHD beside the author's name and people buy it.

I use those similar products but the Wal Mart ones. The only thing I actually buy there.

Its the only way I have found I can actually drink my BCAA. Now I have Creatine, BCAA, Vitamin C, zinc, selenium powders mixed with one of those packets.
