What's the calorie requirement for a sedentary lifestyle?

How many calories are used per day if someone has an extremely sedentary lifestyle? If, for example, someone spent all day on the couch watching TV, how many calories would they burn? Obviously the human body requires a certain amount of energy just to keep ticking-over but I'm interested to learn how many.
