Sport What you eat or what you don't eat?

I'm wondering if it's okay to be eating foods like macaroni and cheese (kraft, the stuff from the box), frozen pizzas and just things like that.

Also are those frozen dinners (healthy choice, etc.) actually good for you?

Look for LV's grocery list, it's a great list of good foods.

Processed (boxed or frozen) foods are full of garbage and loaded in sodium. If you eat a Lean Cuisine instead of a BigMac, yes it's better, but not near as good as making real food.

Oh, and read LVs grocery list.:)

Thanks, I've read the list and it's very helpful. Besides the foods that I listed, I do eat pretty healthy.

And now that I reread my question I see it's pretty vague, so what I was really wanting to know is if frozen meals (healthy choice, lean cuisine, kashi, all the healthy brands) are good for you. I don't feel healthy eating something that I had to microwave that was frozen, but I've heard that the vegetables in those dinners are actually healthier because they are frozen so the nutrients remain.

And what about that new organic kraft mac and cheese? I'm guessing it's all unhealthy but I just want to make sure because I love it so much.

Thanks

All that "healthy" prepackage stuff is garbage. They have a massive amount of sodium. Stay away from all of them. If you want fast veggies, buy the little bags of steamed veggies, I eat those everyday, only takes a few seconds to make.

frozen meals are poor as they have less nutrients than freshly prepared food, and have additional preservatives etc etc.

also, watch out for food labelled as healthy and low fat as there is usually something else added to make up for the reduced fat. you're better off eating regular food and knowing your not taking in flavour enhancers, trans fats, colourings, hidden carbs, -zines, -oxides, -iums.

its incredible that whole sections of supermarkets are dedicated to 'healthy' foods, when in fact the prepackaged or processed healthy option are far worse for you than the original is.

Just because it says organic on the box doesn't mean it is awesome for you. I've found HFCS in organic stuff before that was sold in a health food store. If you love mac and cheese so much, why don't you just make a batch yourself? It's super easy and the preservatives won't be in it. You could also use whole wheat pasta and low fat cheeses.

Agreed - ideally most of if not all of your food should come in minimal (if any) packaging. Packaging = processed and generally (I think this is from Berardi) the more eye-catching the packaging, the worse it is for you. If you really want to be healthy, start cooking for yourself - you'll be surprised at the difference.

Healthy Choice should be renamed "Healthier than a chicken pot pie Choice". there are worse things out there for sure, but tehre's a million better things too.

plus its cheaper to buy a bag of rice, a pack of Gladware containers, some chicken and some frozen veggies and make your own microwavable 'on the go' meal.

Yikes, that's scary.

Not really, as HFCS is not organic there for can not be in a product truly certified organic. I have only eaten (for the most part) organic for about 4/5 years, and have never seen HFCS in a product.

always Check package for certification.

Yes, true. If it's certified you're safe but it still sucks how companies use words like "organic" and "natural" around when the product is far from it.

These were fig bars and now that I think about it, they have said "natural" instead of organic. Still though, being in a health food store there is just no need for that kind of product there. :)
