To eating very low carb consistently or for a few weeks at a time? By low carb I mean 25 grams or less each day. Or limiting your diet to meat, vegetables and fruit without any grains, oatmeal, brown rice, etc? And no, I don't do this.

I just did it and it sucked.

Is that negative enough for you?

LOL.

In truth, it all depends. Some people handle ketosis differently than others. I handled it fine. There was some fuzziness going on up in the old noggen for a bit, but it passed. But I had crazy cravings.

Your work capacity will also be drastically cut.

So.....you could continue on with very low carb for months on end and there wouldn't be an issue? Lets say we're talking about individuals who are trying to lose weight and have quite a way to go.

why do you have such an anti-carb diet vendetta? the people I'm assuming your talking about - again -a re adults -they are free to make their own choices in life -you do not need to convert them..

because they are trying to convert me . i'm not trying to convert anyone. i would just like to be left alone about how much carbs are evil and they make you fat, tired and stupid. i like my weight loss group. their great, i've known some of them for years. its really nice to have small group of friends who can support one another and share ideas. but the anti-carb talk has turned into the majority of all discussion.

If you're fat, long phases of low carbing isn't going to hurt anyone.

If you're relatively lean, loss of muscle is a possibility.

Not to mention the general shittiness that a low carb diet is.

Your body uses glucose as its energy source. Your body is able to survive on other fuels, but they ultimately have to be converted into glucose first... which uses a lot of energy. The problem with low carb - from what I learned in biochemistry - is that your body will turn both fats and muscle into glucose for your body to use. The biproducts are harmful in large amounts... protein breaks down to ammonium ions (urea).
I have done the "Atkins" diet... and I'm not going to lie it worked fantastically. I ate bacon and eggs galore and lost weight. The problem with me was I never intended to remain low carb for life, and I just gained it all back. Now I wouldn't even try it again... a reasonable low carb diet but never completely cutting whole grains, sugars, etc.
Plus we all know that a balanced diet is healthy, cutting out an entire food group is not balanced.
That's my not-expert opinion. :)

I was told I would feel fantastic if I did low carb. I think I would be a nightmare to be around. At least in the long term.

Like I said, everyone handles it differently.

I love carbs.

But I'm also all about performance and I felt sluggish on the diet on top of a reduced recoverability. But I'm relatively lean too.
