Get Back in the Groove
Wow, you sound busy and I can sympathize with you! Getting back into the swing of things may seem like a huge task, but with the proper mindset, you will be back in action in no time. Just don't expect to go out for your first run and complete it in record time. Realize that you need to retrain some of your muscles and reestablish your cardiovascular endurance. However, because you have recently conditioned your body, it won't take as long as you might think. Begin your training with an initial conditioning stage where you run only half of what you used to do, or decrease your speed for the entire run. Then, after a few weeks, move to the improvement stage, where you actually begin to increase both your speed and mileage each week. Don't increae either too fast, or you might get hurt, but listen to your body and increase based on how you feel. Finally, after you feel that you have reached where you were before your schedule became so busy, train in the maintenance stage, which will prevent you from having to go through this all over again. This stage will keep up what you have accomplished in the improvement stage and you'll be ready to go when cross country and/or track season starts. Good Luck!
