What will a 3 Week holiday do to my fitness?

Hello!

My goal is to run 5K in 18 minutes and I have started a program a week ago. Well I'm still looking for a more detailed program but anyway...At the start of January I am going to America for 3 weeks. I am pretty sure I will be unable to do continue my cardio training, thus I'm wondering how will my performance/fitness decrease over that period of time?

Thank you.

Probably not very much, use it as a chance to let your body recover from months of training.
If you're from Europe then just watch what you eat over there, their portions sizes are way bigger than here, everyone I've know who has gone to America has put on massive amount of weight while away, one guy put on over 10lbs in a fortnight and had no idea how, he just ate out most nights.
It'll also be just after Christmas so twice the need to watch your diet while away

Yes I was looking at it as a much-needed recovery period. Certainly will watch my diet and food intake. I'm from Australia.

Thanks

IMO, 3 weeks of inactivity can reduce fitness quite a bit. I'm sure theres a way you can go for a few run's whilst your over there?

I agree, you will lose fitness and a couple of minutes / 5K in 3 weeks. Why can't you run while here?

And, yes, the portions do tend to run big here, but that doesn't mean you have to eat everything on your plate. Not all Yanks are fat (just a lot of us).

Completely depends on your experience level. For me after years of lifting 3 weeks is hardly noticable and often helpful. But I agree...why can't you do some running. We have roads....and running water....now.

I completely agree with this statement, I sometimes make my best gains after a couple of weeks out of the gym doing nothing. Sometimes your body just needs a bit of an extended rest.
I really can't see how you would lose pace or strength after a few weeks

I’d think a few discovery runs where you are going would be great for your training. Adding spice to the norm.
