Congratulations to everyone, we are all doing so well :)
God I have a waist, which sent me thinking what to wear.
I have realised that I don't know my style anymore, for so long I have worn baggy clothing to cover and conceal everything, I have gone from a size 20 and am now into a size 14 ( a little on the loose side) and as I have nothing that fits, have been forced to buy a few tops, am borrowing Lexie07's old pants and jeans for the minute, however I lack the confidence and knowledge at the moment to know what suits me. The last thing I want to do is look like mutton dressed as lamb. I am sure that as more weights drops off and a few shopping trips later I will be okay and a style will magically appear, Just wondering if anyone else has considered this.

Hi KIWI, Well done on such a great loss so far!! You must be so wrapped!!
I love this program because the weight just melts off you!! And as far as 'your style' goes thats the best part!! Discovering what you really like to wear, and what looks great on your new body! Do you know what I did.... The day I started Cohen's I would buy myself 2 fashion mags a week and I would go through them with a black marker and tick the pages that I liked, it could be shoes or handbags, jeans, summer dresses, formal wear - what ever took my fancy the most. Now when I go shopping I kinda already know what I like and I don't do my head in trying on EVERYTHING in the shop. It is so good to actually be able to fit into the latest fashions.
Plus with the magazines, it's fun to dream about what your going to look like at the end in your new wardrobe. I also started buying things in small sizes really early on as an incentive. For example when I was 84kgs I bought myself this gorgeous funky  white suit in a size 10, it looked tiny to me, now it is my favouritest thing I own - it looks so great on, although now the pants are starting to get a little loose.
Those magazines were a huge treat to me - instead of buying chocolate or icecream I spent the money on the mags and they motivated me to stick with the program.
Good luck to you, dare to dream!:D

Hi kiwi

Nah! Never mind the mutton / lamb conundrum, I am 56 and have had a lot of fun buying clothes from Mrs Chinese lady at the market and from Millers Fashion Club. These are cheap 'disposable' clothes for wearing at home and with friends and are just for fun

For business, I have bought some classic tailored pants in size 10 and some corporate looking tops and a tailored jacket, but as time has gone buy I have realised that for new people I meet, this is what I look like. They didn't know me when I resembled a barrel on legs!

Experiment a bit. I have bought a few things that certainly do not suit me at all, well - tough! I can wear them around the house and not worry too much, but I found that clothes from twelve years ago are certainly a bit sad and aren't as nice as I remember them anyway.

You are still losing weight, so don't spend too much, but do buy yourself some clothes which fit you now.

For my Birthday last May when I had achieved my own personal goal of 65 kilos, I bought a pair of black slacks (size 10) and a knitted aqua top with matching camisole to wear out to dinner. Now, those slacks are really baggy around my non-existent btm and keep falling down. They cost $19.95 and I got about four months wear out of them so I was OK with that.

I would not have bought that style of top before but it is quite pretty and I have worn it a few times since then. It cost about $15 so big deal.

I have bought some really perky tops from Millers for less than $20 but can fit in to their size 8 - not many Miller stores carry size 8 and their size 10 hangs off me. Still, I was never one for the op shops and would prefer to spend $20 and buy a couple of new items rather than spend $5 and buy secondhand.

But for your own self respect and for safety, do buy some new clothes and buy things which fit. You will soon get used to having a waist and to having clothes not just made of knitted materials.

Even when you reach goal weight you will continue to lose weight during refeed and continue to shrink for a couple of months afterwards, by which time you will 'believe' your shape and have more confidence in buying to suit you. It takes time to replace an entire wardrobe and it takes time to realise that you can just walk in to any shop and look for 'your size'. In fact, I have to order in size 8 and please remember I am far from skinny, I am at the top of the medical weight range at 60 kilos and 165cms, and I have found a few great bargains on the discount tables as all the larger sizes have gone first.

And anything I feel is a 'bit young' I just pass on to my daughter or future daughter-in-law (we all weigh 60 kilos) and they get the bonus!

Have fun, be a bit brave, don't expect too much from yourself too soon but I have bought a really hot pink and white striped club tee shirt from Millers ($12) and I just love it! I feel really pretty in it and who cares if it is a bit 'beachy'? So have a great time experimenting, don't be too staid, and while you're at the shops pick up a new lipstick, too, and maybe some nail polish and a vial of nice perfume. It's all good and you will develop a number of styles as you continue to reinvent yourself!

Cheers

Size Frustrations

hi kiwi!

What part of Aus are you from?...the reason im asking is because i know that in Perth we have a Westfield Carousel and at that shopping centre you can hire a personal fashion assistant for an hour or so that will help you match your body shape to the trends of the moment.I wouldnt recomend doing it now as you are still losing weight, but maybe as a treat when youve reached goal weight?

My best friends mum lost a whopping 46 kilo last year and as her treat did exactly that..those personal fashion assistants really know what they are doing!
she turned from flab to FAB! and the clothes that the lady helped her out with didnt make her look like 'mutton dressed as lamb' so to speak :)

does anyone else get frustrated at the different sizings in different stores???
i am too afraid to shop anywhere else but target as the fear of ' gosh im not going to fit into ANYTHING in there' and i KNOW shops like jay jays are SO much smaller in cuts then for example 'Live'
ITS SO ANNOYING

Hi Kiwi:)

Well done with the weight loss so far.

I shopped at Target last week and they are clearing out their summer stock to get ready for winter (maddness really when we are experiencing all our heat now in Qld) anyway I managed to pick up some shorts reduced to $8 & a top at $11.00. They have some nice piece's their at the moment drastically reduced and their clothing department is split for age & size. So why not give that a go if you have one nearby - that may hold you over until you reach goal and then you can splurge $$$$ abit more at more exclusive shops.

Happy shopping
Sam:)
