Weight-Loss What to expect when increasing calories

Weight-Loss

Hi there,
Im new to the forum. Im currently on an eating plan that i have decided is WAY too low in calories. But im finding it hard to get my head around eating more when trying to lose weight.

Just wondering what i should expect to happen when i now increase my daily calorie intake (while excercising the same). Will my metabolism increase straight away? Does it take a day to speed up or weeks?
Can i expect weight gain initially?
Any advice/tips would be great!!!

How many calories are you currently eating? How long have you been doing that? What are your stats? What sort of exercise are you doing on top of this?

Well at the moment i weigh 187.5 and my BMI is 30.1. (Im 5ft 5). My goal at the moment is to reach 149, then reevaluate if i want to lose more.
I have only just joined this forum. I started my 'diet' a week ago, but over the past 2 months have been dabbling with it a week here and a week there.
Last week i was roughly eating 700 calories a day. Yes LOW i know!!!
Last week i did 4 days of 40min cardio (only walking). This week i hope to do 5 days of 40 cardio or more. Have an apt at the gym on wed to get a weights program made for me, which i aim to do 3 times a week.

Hope you can shed some light on what would work better for me, and what to expect when i up my calories...

Last week you ate 700 calories. Is that the only time you were dieting? It doesn't sound it from what you posted above. So what, on average, have you been eating over the last couple of months?

Also, what has your weight done over that same time period?

Over the past 2 months i have been doing most days at 700, but some days i have fallen off the wagon and just eaten massive lunch's and dinners. On those days my caloric intake may have been up to 2000/2500?? Except on those days i skipped breakfast and ate nothing till like 1 or 2 pm. And on those days, no excercise.

Over the past 2 months my weight has either stayed the same, or put on up to 6 pounds.

Any thoughts on this yet Steve? Also (as ive just joined) when i posted an intro in the newcomers section, you mentioned taking my morning temp for a few days to work out how bad my metabolism is. Can you explain this if you have time?

I posted links to read so you'd know why I was telling you to take your temp. Did you read the links?

It's hard to say since I'm not sure what your caloric intake is. You were shooting for 700 calories but you have massive cheats thrown into the mix.

So you're stalled b/c either a) you were eating maintenance or b) you've accumulated a ton of stress by beating your body into submission or c) something is going on metabolically.

I can't tell though.

I'd start by reading those links I posted in your intro thread.

I'd also get a grip on your nutrition because your relationship with food right now is harmful.

I agree with you there. Thats why i am wanting to do it right from now on, and increase my daily calorie intake. Thats why i started this thread, was to kind of find out what to expect when i get on a regular higher calorie intake. Wether or not i am going to gain weight etc...

You might but who cares?

It's temporary gain for a permanent solution.
