Sport What to eat for a before work out boost

OK... I want to start by saying I have a bad heart, I am staying away from anything with caffiene and ephedra (sp). I plan to do most of my work out after work about 6pm..

I only tend to do cardio (walk/jog, bike, eliptical)
and 2 days arm/leg resistance work out.


I normally eat lunch about noon-1pm and wont eat again until I get home after my workout..

Today I bought two granolla bars (1 is a special K bar with added protein). My real question is what would u recommend I eat maybe on the ride from work to the gym to give me a bit more energy to sustain through my work out..

I drink lots of water through the day and plan to push in gatorade along with my work out as well...

OK today I decided to step my food intake up a bit...

Breakfast was a bowl of honey nut cheerios, 1 1/2 pieces of wheat toast with a little butter


during the day I intend to consume:
2-3 20oz of water
a banana
a chicken breast patty
cubes of sharp cheese
bowl of pears

workout

dinner: piece of fish, a vegetable and fruit and possibly a scoop of man and cheese if there is any left. Juice with dinner

Water water water..
 
Caffiene!

Or other energy type pills- ginseng, gua... (cannot remember the right name!) b-vitamins. All help me massivly. I have to say I take pills over food as most foods with this in are either protein bars or high calorie meals, but they do work for me anyway.
 
Just wondering- you said you were going to step it up a bit and ate more ? did this help or are you still looking for advice on what to eat before your workout?

I read that milk and dairy are fast to be absorbed into the blood streams without the sugar drop you get if you were to consume a bag of sweets, maybe something to consider?
 
Well I have begin to do a bigger food load throughout the day while at work.. I feel much better then I did but I really haven't done anything special..

NO TO CAFFIENE. I have a bad heart and don't want that...

I have started doing the following through the day.

4-5oz of tuna
lots or water
a banana
wheat thins
either turkey and mustard sandwiches or a chicken breast
a fruit of sort

then after my workout I eat a lean gold protein bar
