Sport What to eat before and after working out

Howdy

Am I right in thinking that before working out you should eat carbs, and eat proteins after?

I'm not sure whether to invest in protein powders as I will only get to workout fairly late at night and wont really get a chance to eat.

Any advice?

Before: Whey shake with oats
After: Whey shake with dextose

It doesn't matter what time of the night you eat as long as it fits into your macro requirements for the day.
 
Yeah I would do both. You don't need shakes but something high in protein along with something high in complex carbs. A little sugar can't hurt.
