Sport What to eat after a hard cut?

Sport Fitness
Over this weekend I had to lose 6 pounds for a wrestling tournment on monday.

My diet this weekend was:
Saturday: Asian Pear, 3 sips of water
Sunday: 2 sips of water :drooling1:

I made weight and after I did I ate 2 bagles (white), melon, 2 bottles of water, protien bars. After a while before matches I had some caffinated tea wich brought me up to speed. Since of dehydration my body could not rest last nice and I had to lay in bed for 5 hours before sleeping.

I know this is not healthy but what must be done, must be done. The only reason it was so extreme was because I was told to make weight on such short notice.

Is what I ate a good thing to eat after starving? Or is there something beter I should eat to refuil my body. I placed in the tournment but I could have done much beter if I hadn't gassed completly during my matches.

Yea, pretty rough, dude! :) But this isn't all that uncommon with persons wanting to make weight for sporting events such as your wrestling, boxing, etc, etc.

I made weight

Congrats! :) I think......:)

Curious. What was your diet like just prior to the two-day dieting event to make weight? Notwithstanding other potential side effects, Caffiene can have three direct effects: 1. Acts as a stimulant (fairly quickly), 2. Is a diuretic (which makes you pee and get rid of water), and 3. Can cause a major dip in energy levels when a person develops a tolerance, especially if its not met or exceeded.

This is my short opinion: Dependent on your diet trend prior to your two-day dieting event to meet weight restrictions, your glucose stores were possibly full. The most influence on you gassing out in the match, was (IMO) your lack of water/dehydration, and to a lessor extent your two day restriction (keeping your trend leading up to your two day dietary event equal). Muscles are made of primarily water. Carbohydrates carry water with them, and Insulin assists in shuttling in nutrients in the cells, both of these were in the very low zone for two days. For two days, your macro nutrients were nonexistent (basically), and the body was operating and pulling energy from within--but not very efficiently. How much of your glucose storage was used? This is hard to determine. But, I think it is safe to say, you used some of the calories from it.

Therefore after this event, getting some extra carbohydrates (to rehydrate) and water are important. But primarily focusing on the big three with your meals during the course of the day will suffice--if the purpose is just getting back to your normal dietary habits (assuming no tissue loss or tissue gain goals at this point).

Best wishes,

Chillen
