What to do when you find cheap food. A step by step instruction by Karky

You go to the store, and you suddenly see there's a sale on pork beef, what do you do? Well, you buy everything they have left that is in your portion range (my portion range is about 300-400grams of meat. a package with less and I have to start mixing together, with more I'll have to start dividing)

The result should look something like this:

You then put it in the freezer together with the 1.5kg of lamb you've got there from before. It should look something like this:

Then you are all set. You can take it out of the freezer to defrost as you see fit.

I hope this helped and that this can serve as an instruction for what to do when you go shopping.

Hahaha, nicely done. For awhile, the store near me kept having these turkey tenderloins on sale and those mofos were massive. I had like 8 in my freezer, it was probably upwards of 20 pounds. So yeah, I am with you on this one.

I remember when I had an awesome hookup at my friends diner.

I used to order 80-100lbs of chicken breast at a time because he got it dirt cheap.

We have a market by us that runs sales on various meats. We stock up when theres a good one. Last good one was boneless skinless chicken breast for 1.09 a pound.

I also have a freezer full of fish that cost me the price of bait.
5lbs of walleye costs me an average of 2.99.

Well played, Sir Norway.

Also, there is a magical land called CostCo where you may purchase vast quantities of frozen whole foods, for probably half of what you'd pay wherever else you shop, and place them in your enormous 22 cu. ft. freezer that you should have if you don't suck. :p

I'm a student, I live collectively (sharing kitchen with 6 other people)
And CostCo is nowhere to be found in Norway :(

I never knew they sold walleye in stores. My family just goes fishing to eat walleye. Do they package the fish and put spices and all that into the fish or what?

Yikes, 6 other people. I consider a basement suite with 5 rooms containing only me crowded.

How sad for you that you have no Costco. :bncry: I shall pray for you.

LOL, Meijer had extra lean ground beef (96% lean) on sale and we bought 20 lbs. I love having a chest freezer.

I love Costco too. I like their round, sirloin and filets, sometimes salmon. and of course, 6 gallons of milk a week (sometimes there, sometimes at Meijer depending on who's cheaper) ...oh yeah and Larabars, walnuts etc. etc. etc.

yeah buddy except you forgot to say almonds and consequently are DEAD TO ME

Just stay away from the packages labeled "Managers Special"

It will go bad in the freezer overnight lol.

Yeah, having served my time working in a supermarket as a poor student I would always advice caution over discounted meats.
If the offer is really good and people are buying in bulk then the store stocks up massive supplies. The problem with this is that the freezer/fridge storage in the stock rooms is the same size as before and there might not be enough room. Where do you think the surplus goes?

I worked in a place called Safeways and this one time we couldn’t fit any more discounted chicken in the fridge so the freezer door was opened and a pallet full of chicken was placed halfway in the door. I would have hated to have eaten any of that chicken, or the half defrosted stuff from the freezer

If possible I would always buy from a local butcher

There is a date on the meat when it was packed, which was maybe a day or two before I bought it. So it hasn't been stored for long in the store freezer

That's pretty cool, I don't think I've ever seen that over here on anything other than bottles of Bud

I just checked. The meat was packed the 22nd of september. Ergo, the same day I bought it. So it's pretty fresh :D (I'm pretty sure they actually pack it right after the butcher has butchered it)
