What to do on the treadmill ?

I'm not comfortable enough to read the paper, scratch, stretch out my arms, or even take a drink yet.

Besides music or watching others, what do you all do on the treadmilll; and do you keep the resistence/incline the same ?

lol, it can take a little time to feel comfortable on the treadmill, but I usually listen to music, watch tv or both :D

I tend to increase the intensity as I go. Something like: I'll warm up for 5 minutes at 3.5 MPH and incline at 6% increasing it slowly to 10% by 5 minutes. . Then @ 10% I'll speed up to 4MPH. I top out at 15% @ 4.5-4.8 MPH. I *use* to go for about an hour. I cut that down to 30 minutes....just because I was doing a lot of cardio.

Changing it up keeps your attention and helps keep me going. The tv can be a good distraction if you have a good movie, or show on that can last the time you are working out. Sometimes I like to watch, but mute the tv and blast the music....lol

3mph is a moderate speed walk. You just need to continue doing this and your cardiovascular and muscular strengths will improve dramatically.

I hate treadmills but if I have to go on one for a fitness test or something I just position myself next to a busty girl wearing insufficient support, hours of fun!

Haha, just kidding, I'm like you and if I look anywhere other than straight down at the mat thing you run on then I end up with my ass on the floor

I only do interval training for cardio (when I actually get round to doing it) so concentration is rarely an issue, I'm too focused on surviving and convincing my legs to start sprinting again

My entire workout is done at 3 MPH, level 3 incline. And that feels pretty darn fast to me !!!

we all start somewhere. I was there at one point, just kept going though and eventually got faster. What I found will make a difference (if speed is something you are still conquering) change the incline. It will make it harder, but you should be able to keep the speed. Do it gradually though... incline for a minute at 3.5% then back down to 3%. that alone should keep your attention :)

depending on the machine you are using, some of them have built in programs for inclining. They start out with the easiest first and on up. That might also be something you could try.....

I can't watch tv while running. What I do is:
- play with the speed and the inclination
- listen to music
- watch other people work out
- count minutes
- count seconds (when sprinting)
