Tell your bf that he should forget doing bodybuilding splits if he isn't advanced. He should start off with something like 5x5 and gain size and strength on Squats, Bench, Deadlift, Military Press, Rows, Pullups, Chinups/pullups and dips.
If he starts of with 5x5 and drinks a gallon of milk (or takes in sufficient cals) in 6 months time or a year he will be un-recognizable and he will be shifting some serious weight.
