What kind of exercise?

I was wondering, what kind of exercise does everyone do and for how long. For the moment I'm on the treadmill an hour a day.

I do the elliptical 3-4 times during the weekdays for 35-60 mins. If the elliptical isn't available at the gym, I alternate walking and jogging on the treadmill for 30 mins, and then do 30 mins on the elliptical when it is free. I'm really not a huge fan of the treadmill though. I also take an intense hip-hop dance class at least once a week.

On weekends I usually don't do much cardio, but if I really feel like I must, I'll pop in my Zumba Advanced DVD. On Saturdays I take a salsa dance class. It's not very intense, but at least it keeps me moving. I like doing something active almost every day of the week.

For strength training, I work out arms, chest, and back with dumbbells twice a week at home. For abs and butt, I like using a stability ball and my Core Secrets Target Toning DVDs. I plan to get back into doing Pilates again. I just ordered this Pilates DVD I used to have on VHS a few years ago that did wonders for my abs back then.

I do the eliptical at the gym for 45 minutes, then I walk for 15, then I do 100 situps all 3 days a week. On the other 2 days I do a dance dvd at home, not hard but it is definately a workout and its enjoyable.

I am walking on treadmill as well, for an hour every day six days a week. I am walking on incline at 3.4 miles an hour.Sunday is usually my day of rest. I am also weight training 3 times a week an hour each time + I am biking A LOT(because it is my only kind of transpotation around here) and I am roller blading. Damn, I'm good! :p

My main exercise is 3 mile walks in the park 6 days a week and pushmowing the yard every week, a 2 day job.

Seems to be working good for now :)

Great Topic

I'm altrernating my freeweight routine which is upper body/abs and back then lower body/abs and back everyother day about 5 days a week; after free weights I do the elliptical or treadmill (alternating) for 30 mineuts followed by 10 mineuts for stretching. My entire routine usually takes 90 mineuts. Next week I'll be returning to school, which means I'll be cutting down to 3 times a week.

I aim (and usually achieve) for:

Three strength training sessions at the gym per week. Lasting 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minutes. Dumbbells, benches, weight machines - warm up and cool down on exercise bike.

and...

At least two cardio sessions per week - either:

a) two to five mile cross country jog/run with the dog on a hands free leash belt.

or b) 1 hour to 1 hour 30 minute 'cardio session' in the gym. Including 2 - 3.5 virtual miles running on the treadmill, and combinations of eliptical crosstrainer, exercise bike, and steppers.

Also regular dog walking most days (sometimes I can get someone else to do it, but its mainly down to me), usually around 1 to 3 miles.

I also like to sometimes go cycling - on road or off road, swimming, and walking middle distance - but funny thing is ... I don't seem to get the time to do that often!

I love spinning classes. I've exercised for so many years it really has to be hard and engaging to keep my attention. And WOW the calories burned in a 45 minute session is incredible. But I also try to do weights, I hate them but I try.

We hike with the dogs 2+ miles most weeknights up and down some fairly steep grades. We break it up with swim classes 2 days a week. In addition we do situps and stretching on an exercise ball in the morning and I do a few sets of pull-ups. We are lucky to be in a place where hiking outdoors is a very convienient exercise for us. It's been the best activity all around. In the beginning we started out slow and just went as far as it felt comfortable. Then pushed a little further everyday until we finally quit being winded by the hills. We really miss it in inclement weather when we'll sometimes go to the gym and walk the track. After woods hiking, walking around a track seems pretty tedious. When we're out with the dogs, it hardly seems like exercise at all!

The only exercise I've been able to stick to is climbing up and down the stairs in my office building. I like it because it's hard going up, but I get a bit of a rest going down, and my heart rate remains elevated. I do it 30/min a day, pretty intense workout. Well, for me anyway.

I try to take the kids for a 20 minute walk each day, and if I can, I go for an hour-long brisk walk without them every day. 3 times a week I do an exercise video with some sort of cardio, and ab work, etc.

WOW ... Im not as active as everyone else

However I am just starting out on really focusing on loosing weight, I have two mini goals set and I am pumped and ready...All I do for exercise is Curves at least 4 times a week, I just started TaeBo in the mornings and I have a physical job...I clean houses and clean on average, 3 full ones a day by myself...I am also going to start walking in the evenings with my two girls...That is it for me...

Tae-Bo Rocks

I am a tae-bo fanatic. I do about 45 min of some type of cardio/interval in the AM, and 20 more min of cardio in the PM with an ab workout of some sort. I heard that working out for a little while about 8 hours after you wake up gets your metabolism going again. I am thinking about adding in some pilates before bed for stretch and relaxation.

Yes he does I love him but I forgot how hard it was I havent doen it since before baby # 2 when I was prego...LOL...But i feel great cardio in the am and cardio in pm...

I try to do at least an hour of cardio 4-5 times a week (sometimes I go for 30minutes if I'm short on time) and I try to stengthtrain 3-4 days a week. My cardio is usually Elliptical machine for 30 minutes and indoor track or bike for another 30 minutes. While on the track I usually walk quickly for 2 laps and then jog for 2 or 3 laps and repeat for about half hour .. sometimes longer. Last year I was getting to the point where I could run 2 to 3 miles straight, which was good for me (cause I don't like running:mad: ) but after taking some time off due to personal family issues, I've had to "start over" but I know as I keep doing it that my endurance will increase and that keeps me motivated. On the bike and elliptical machine, I do interval training ... I usually spend 2 or 3 minutes going at a moderate pace and then I speed up for a minute going as hard as I can and then slow down again for another 2 or 3 minutes. I swear it works .. I lose weight so much quicker when I do interval training .. now if only I could stick to eating a proper diet and not LOVE chocolate and sweets sooo much :p

I'm a yoga and Pilates fanatic. I try to do one Pilates class and two yoga classes a week. I also try to get in a weight training class once a week and at least three sessions on the elliptical trainer. If I could take yoga every day, I would. I find it to be very stimulating and effective. I recommend Pilates for the toning and quick results you see in the way your body looks and moves (for guys and girls - there's a good mix of both in my Sunday class.)

I struggle with getting all this done but this is the mix that I've found works best for me.

A little more unusual

I use my video ipod while on the elliptical at the gym. 5 mornings a week, and 5 evenings a week I work out for the length of time it takes me to watch an hour long show (less the commercials) which ends up taking about 45 minutes.

On the mornings and evenings that I don't go to the gym, I spend an hour or so on the Dance Dance Revolution video game. It's not intense, but it works up a good sweat. My other fun off-day alternative is juggling. I'm pretty terrible at it, but all those balls I miss mean a lot of picking stuff up off the floor, and new tricks all require some amount of energy and dexterity.
