What kind of bed do you have?

I ask because we are about to buy a Select Comfort Sleep Number. Does anyone have one, and if so how do you like it?

If you have another type and really like it, what is it?

OOH I want one so bad. My mattress is 13 YEARS OLD!!!! I keep telling my husband we need a new one. I tried a Select Comfort at one of there stores at is is incedible. My friend has one and she loves it. They are also at the radisson hotels or some hotel so if you want to try it out before buying it you can go there for a night.

I have never been on a Sleep Number bed, but I have heard they are not great. My parents stayed on one at a Radisson for a night and both said it was like sleeping on a big balloon under the mattress on each side (which is a bad thing). The air compressor was loud enough that you could not change the firmness at night without waking up the other person. It would probably be best if you drop the money for a hotel room with this bed before you buy one.

Having travelled and hotelled for the better part of the last 20 years -I thinkI've slept on every bed type imaginable.

I think it's hilton's or hyatts that have the select comfort beds in their rooms (confirm it and book one night in their hotel to see if you like the bed) I personally didn't - it was too air mattressy and too gadgetty... I spent too long trying to find the perfect number and never quite did.

Tempur Pedics ae nice -but are awful in the summer -they hold heat like nobody's business and if you prefer to sleep in a chilled room - it's not gonna h appen iwth the temper pedic... If you like a warm cocoony feeling - then they're great.

Go to a mattress store that has multiple brands - and pretty much jump on the beds - lay down on them - toss and turn -- see what feels right ro you.

A word on pillow tops - very comfortable - getting decent sheets to fit them are tough...

You want a bed big enough for whomever yuo are sleeping with - for most adults full size beds don't cut it - too small for two people to sleep comfortably... Queen or better is best depending on the size of your room...

Well we just came back from the store and spent the money on a Sleep Number 5000 King.

I can sleep anywhere, but a good mattress is needed especially for my wife. The 5000 comes with a whisper quiet pump so we dont have to worry about the loud pumps. If those hotels have the loud pumps, then they have the lower end models. Ours is equipped with a 2" pillowtop.

At the store they find your number for you based on personal comfort and a pressure point layout (computer). I found that I am a 35 and she is a 50. We've done the trying and buying thing, which has led us to beds that are not as great as the 5 minutes you lay on them iin the store.

My parents have a Sleep Number bed, and they love it. They have a low-end model, but the pump noise isn't relevant to them, because they found the right number and don't change it often. (Other than at the very beginning, when we all played with it until the new wore off.) They put a 2" piece of tempurpedic foam over the top to counteract the air-mattress feeling; that was cheaper than the pillowtop option, IIRC.

I've got a plain (no pillowtop) Spring Air firm and it's fine, although it was better new 10 years ago. Our kid has a plain Serta firm, and it's way too hard for me to get comfortable on. So either Serta is firmer than Spring Air, or my taste in mattresses has sagged along with the Spring Air. ;)

I have a sleep number bed and have for years. I hate it but we spent so much money on it I can't just get rid of it. When we bought it a few years ago it was the best they had. I'm not sure what number it is... 5000 maybe. Queen size. I loved it at first, but not so much anymore. You're supposed to be able to flip the topper over season to season but I can't because mine grew mold. They replaced the topper twice and the entire bed once but it still grew mold. The service center told me that in humid climates the bed might do that and that I should air it out and hand wash it every few months. WTF?! I scrubbed the hell out of the last topper we got with bleach and Lysol and of course I air it out and Lysol it every few months but one side of the topper is stained from the mold and worn out from me scrubbing it. I have a wireless remote which is now unreadable and the pump(s) is(are) not quiet at all. The first pump was loud and so is the replacement one they sent after the original one broke after less than a year. The bed also eventually 'hammocked' meaning we now feel like we're sleeping in one huge hammock, butts hanging lower and rolling towards the center.
Am I bitter? Maybe, but this is just my experience.

The beds may have been improved in the few years since ours was purchased.

Cats the lady told me all the older models had the same loud pumps, the ones that are still in their 3 and 4K series.

I hope we dont have any problems like that.
