Hello, first post here. I thought I would share this and maybe help those who are at their wit's end on trying to loose weight. This is what is working for me.
Starting weight: 227lbs, 27.5% body fat, March 2009
Current weight: 201lbs, 23.8% body fat, May 2009
Goal: 175-180lbs
Ok, so the weight isn't coming off that fast but at a healthy rate and I am not using any diet pills, or special techniques. I have tried just about everything and I will loose a bit here and gain it back there.
I have read all kinds of stuff and technical bulletins, tried pills and fad diets, but for me, it boils down to a single and simple equation.
Calories Burnt > Calories Consumed.
I don't worry about what I am eating, if it is good for me or bad, if it has high fat or low, I just eat less calories that I burn...but not too much. So, if I burn 2200 calories in a day if I don't work out, then I try and eat about 1000-1500.
What is funny is that you quickly learn that high fat foods have a ton of calories and use up your daily allowance quickly. It makes you mad when you hit your max at lunch time. So, you naturally gravitate to healthy foods and more veggies because you can stuff your face with them a whole lot more than with a hamburger and fries. So, if you want to eat throughout the day, you eat better food so that you can eat more.
Here is the key though. You have to eat like normal every 4-5 days or so and your body does not go into starvation mode. If you starve youself for too long, it will backfire (been there).
It is funny because I will lose about 1/2 pound a day for about 3 days and then it stops because I think my body is saying, "Dude, you are starving" and then I eat what I want for a day and let me tell you, that is a day I look forward to. I start up the low calorie thing again the next day and the weight begins to drop again. So, I have been loosing 2-3lbs a week.
So, this is simple. You just have to keep your calories down but not let your body know that you are doing it.
So let all of those folks pound you with special diets and pills, keep the money in your pocket, and smile knowing you just dropped another 1/2lb today.
