what is too much?

I've been running to get my 1.5 mi time down for my SEAL screening test. and i missed it by 1 minute i have 11:30 in boots and pants. i ran a 12:34 . i have a thread in my diary its in the womens section by mistake. but my 1.25 fastest is 8:53 which woudl put me at 1.5 around 11:00 which is fine with my my 1.5 last nght was 11:50 i felt a little slower. i guess i wastn in the mood. but i ran 6 days this past week in boots and pants. today i have some muscle pain around my knee joints. is this normal? i mean i hade muscle pain after i ran a few times. but only for 30 mins or so. so is this pain i have today, my body telling me to take a break? or is it normal. i planned on runnin 6days a week in boots and pants for 2 weesk to get that minute off of my time. at best looks like i have gotten it down to 11:00 but i woudl like to get it under 10:30

thanks you reading. and replying for those who do.

Hi Skyline,
IMHO I think you over do a bit for running 6 day week if you are not a regular runner. you need a rest meaning just do brisk walking. Try to run low , lift your legs just above the ground almost touching, like gliding along the road so you don't hear the bounding of your boots.
I was having this kind of pain call runner's knee until I read an articles in Runner magazine many years ago. I've improved my running since then.

well ive been running for about 3 months. consistantly, im taking a day off i have ran sun- mon take tuesday off maybe wednesday off run thurs fri-sat. im only running 1.5 mi. and if i have to run my 1.5 on next thursday how many days should i take off before hand to get the best performance?

if you are running hard every time you go out... and running 6 days a week it is too much...

hard easy hard easy... you can't push that hard everytime and not break your body down...

Jsobo119, you are right, hard day followed by easy day, you will be surprised, if you have a good rest, you may perform better. 2 days before your event, do very easy run just to break a sweat and do warm down stretching.
Good Luck. :)

Second vote for some interval training for you. That will help increase your speed, to get the 1.5 time down to where you want it.

Also, I don't recommend constantly training in boots, it is harder on your body and may be contributing to some of the pain you are experiencing. Get into a good pair of running shoes for the majority of your training and only use the boots infrequently.

thanks for all the advise im trying to figureout the interval training thing, its pretty self expainitory but i i dotn know how to figure out a work out thats right for me.

i took 2 days off and ran in boots and pants last night 1.5 in 11:05 and no pain what so ever. during or after. i think the pain was from over training. so i will make today and easy run day. as the previous posts say.

For the distance you are training for (1.5) the intervals that you are looking for will be relatively short, either time based or distance-based if you have access to a track or other measured course. If you can't find anything reliable online, head down to your local Barnes & Noble or Borders "library" and look at some of the training plans they may have in the books there, and take a few notes. There is a reason they have those big over-stuffed chairs in there. :)
