does anyone know the name of this???

those are springs at the top for resistance and you're supposed to squeeze your arms together.

if you know where i can purchase this, that'll be helpful too.

I think it is called a chest expander. I wouldnt buy it though it is a gimmik that wont give you good results.

Thanks for the reply, NBS 4life.

I thought that's what it's called too, but after I did a search I found a chest expander to be springs that you pull your arms away from each other, not together. This seems to be something closer to what is called a twist bar.

I still can't figure out what it is called. what is this thing's name?

if you pulled springs apart, it would work the back muscles, not the chest, so calling it a chest expander wouldn't make sense.

the chest pushes/compresses...the back pulls/extends.

I know a much better device you probably already have: it's called a floor. Put your face on or very near it and then push yourself up. Repeat as necessary.

Anyway, I did some searching, and I really don't think that product exists. Picture looks like it's from one of those Japanese "let's make people do silly things and laugh at them" shows.

Closest you'll get is various devices along the lines of . Doubt any of them are actually in production, though, as I don't think anybody in their right mind would buy one, except as a collectible, maybe.

You could get a much better workout from a pair of basic bands with handles tied to something, which you could use to do something like a cable press. Not to mention, they, unlike the device in question, have all sorts of other, non-paper weight uses.

malkore - interesting point, i didn't think much about that. everywhere the chest expander seems to be advertised, it has someone pulling their arms apart.

focus - this picture was actually taken out of some asian website when i was first looking for its name. so you may be right, but i thought that this was prevalent at some point in time since i've felt like i've seen it before. i guess it may be only used in japan?

thanks for the exercise advice... yeah, you guys are right, this doesn't seem to be really good for exercising with.
but i am interested in what it's actually named and if it is still sold, if anyone knows. was it some very old style 1970's (?) equipment?

Use dumbells and do some flys, both normal & decline. Will work much better!! :)
