Sport WHAT is the deal with potatoes?

Sport Fitness
I feel like I'm pretty clued up about most foods (been reading up a lot) but potates still confuse me.

They're completely natural and unprocessed, but high in starchy complex carbohidrates.

I'm trying to lose weight (and doing a lot of exercise) so how should potatoes fit into my diet? I've been carefully choosing my carbs and I've kinda cut out potatoes completely... but I'm thinking maybe that's not necessary.

What are your opinions?

sweet potatoes are better for fat loss but i don't like them...they have a high gi reading but a rather low carb/gram factor so the total g flux is moderate i'd say...the problem is the same with bread, rice and pasta...when you have them you have a lot of it in one go so if you only have a moderate sized spud mashed or whatever i can't see a problem with it but if you do, cut them out or have it at lunch and no later
