Sport What is the best 'boost' food prior to a workout?

Sport Fitness
Question is in the title :)

What is the best food one can eat to give him/herself a 'boost' prior to a workout? Something that would increase your performance and endurance when eaten say, 45 minutes or earlier prior to exercising?

I don't mind if it's liquid or solid, engineered or natural - but I'd prefer natural and non-toxic :)

Cheers!

Performance in what?

Well when I benchpress, I always bring a bottle of cranberry juice with me (with is extremely bitter). Apparently its rather quickly absorbed and especially good for supplying energy to muscles.

It goes without saying that glucose is used up during exercises, so for increased energy, a carb-rich drink would seem like the best choice (I've also heard about doing this with creatine).

I like to eat peanut butter and jelly sandwhich, made from 2 slices of whole wheat bread 1.5 hours prior to working out. It helps me sustain my workout for over 80 minutes. Creatine 30 minutes prior to workout helps a lot as well OR caffeine if you are doing cardio.

Hi Everyone, and thank you for the answers.
To answer the questions: I meant, a boost for weight lifting, not cardio. And by 'boost', I mean a 'pump', you know, when you feel peachy and fully awake and about to beat your personal bests.

Cheers!

Then, CREATINE, for sure. If you want to retain the water, then the regular creatine, not estyl. I use the estyl but that is because I want energy only and not really retain the water. I forgot what brand my brother uses but it's really good and definitely gives you that UMP. Felt the difference when I first used that sucker.

I basically do the exact same thing, but without the creatine, PB&J 1.5 hrs before, then some caffeine on the way to the gym.
