Sport What is better for me? Breakfast

Sport Fitness
Hey guys, I have been debating what is better for me to eat for my daily breakfast? I am looking to sustain a healthy weight, not gain muscle or anything. The two options are:

2 Nature Valley Roasted almond crunch granola bar (1 package)

With a bottle of Allens apple juice

or
A bowl of Oatmeal Crisp with Raisin Cereal including milk

I've also considered eating a bowl of Rice Krispies, I'd rather have one of thsoe though.

Which would be better for me?

Thanks!

Generally, I would recommend the oatmeal, but that is high in sugar, so the granola is probably better. But, you can't eat that every day.

I'd say variation is the key- the two on different days would be great but...! I see no protein! I know your not trying to build muscle but a healthy meal would have some protein in there somewhere- can you add some nuts, seeds and yogurt or something?

Having said that, the granola bar for breakfast wouldn't be my choice of breakfast food- high in sugar and refined sugars at that, first thing in the morning is likely to give you a sugar rush that will send you crashing round about 2 hours after you've eaten it- thats if you manage the munchies 30 mins after finishing the bar!

Off the top of my head some other ideas could be:

Porridge with nuts, small amount of honey (if you must have it sweet) and with milk follwed by juice

Toast with peanut butter and a cup of coffee or tea

banana smoothie

plain or greek yogurt, small amount of compote, small amount of granola and cup of tea coffee or juice mixed 50:50 with water

latte and banana and if you still feel peckish with a small ham roll

cheese sandwich and glass of water of 50:50 juice

Cereal and milk and toast with cup of tea/coffee/water

Hope that helps with some ideas, hope you get somewhere with deciding.

The way I'm looking at it, if I have the granola bar, AND apple juice, that's about the same if not more sugar. Which would be better?

I have lost around 50 pounds and I'm terrified of gaining the weight back,

Summer 123 has given you some good suggestions.
Personally I would not risk wasting your hard work to lose fat by consuming processed sugary snacks for breakfast!

-Natural oats will give you a more sustained release of energy. Indeed throw in some seeds and nuts. Try not to add too much honey or sultanas but a few wont hurt for taste, or use cinammon (if you like it!)
-Try berries with yoghurt too. I keep frozen berry mixes in my freezer and love throwing them into the blender in the morning and making a kind of fruit slush to which I add some cereal to in a bowl.

I do not eat breakfast everyday depending on my training schedule, and in fact sometimes like to fast for a bit longer but this isn't for everyone!

I have written an interesting piece on our relationship with food called 'Food: Body Fuel or Life Joy' at my LMD Fitness blog. You may find some useful tips generally! and not just for breakfast.

you need a balanced breakfast, not pure carbs.

why not some eggs/egg whites and a little oatmeal?

nearly all granola bars are loaded with simple sugars and sometimes even trans fats.

Perfectly said! Thats what I'm currently doing.. limiting all sugar and salt intake and have lost 3lbs in the last week

I usually do cardio in the morning, and right after i have a Isopure Whey Protein Shake and that is very filling. Only 200 Calories and Zero Carbs. Also no Sugar.

The downside to that is on the days that i Lift Weights, which is usually Saturday and Wednesday's i find it that i need to eat enough food throughout the day. If not i feel weak.
