Sport What i ate..

Sport Fitness
This is what i ate yesterday from when i woke up. It seems unbalanced, or am i mistaken? please comment on how i can improve the way i eat. I'm new to eating healthy so all the help i can get will be mostly appreciated.

1 hours later: Smoothie (Half Pint) - Natural Yoghurt with a drop of skimmed milk & Mixed Frozen Berries <--- can i add whey protein powder to this?
2 hours later: Jacket potatoe with tuna and side salad (leaves, tomatoe, cucumber, onion, olive oil dressing)
2 hours later: Piece of melon
3 hours later: Salad (boiled egg, salmon, leaves, tomatoe, onion, relish, grated carrot)
3 hours later: Handful of whole almonds
3 hours later: Bowl of porridge (3/4 cup full of oats, 1 & 1/2 cups skimmed milk)

Note: The porridge was a late night snack, i was feeling hungry because it was so hot today and i'd been playing football for about 4 hours before i had it. I decided that would fill me up and help me sleep (its bad to eat before u sleep, right?)

Thanks.

I am guessing you are trying to gain weight? Then that is not nearly enough food.

And yes you can add whey protein, I wold actually recommend it.

well...if you are trying to lose weight it would be harmful to eat a substantial amount before bed ESPECIALLY carbs. but no, it is not BAD to eat before bed because you are just supplying your bod. with protein so it doesnt go into starvation mode while you sleep.

evidence? why is it bad to have carbs before bed? starvation mode during the night? do you think it takes a few hours for starvation mode to kick in? common sense would say no.

to the original poster - what are your goals?

starchy carbs before bed are unnecessary. you're not gonna be doing any physical activity.

carbs from something like cottage cheese at bedtime, are fine, and are fairly low in number.
bedtime is when I agree that a protein + fat only type meal is good, so you have protein to use all night long.

"unnecessary" yes. but "harmful"?

casein protein is considered a good choice of meal before bed because it is more slowly absorbed - hence the cottage cheese. bodybuilders commonly take a tub of cottage cheese before bed. there will be casein in the milk that the OP had with the porridge (along with the carbs).

I say unnecessary....protienboy says 'harmful'.

If you're trying to cut fat, i'd say starchy bedtime carbs are 'harmful' in reaching your goal...but they are not a health risk by any means.
