What good sports mp3 players are out there?

I have had my Sony Walkman NW-S203F mp3 player for over 2 years now and as things do, it is starting to die.

The battery is always dying quick and it doesn't charge the way it used to. I am not going to go to Sony as I don't want it to be sent away.

It's very easy to use and has a band which put on on your upper arm. You also flick the switch to change the songs. I guess you could say it is my best friend in the gym.

Sony do not make this one anymore. eBay does not have it. So I have to face the fact of buying a different one. But what good ones are there out there? I don't want an iPod. No colour screens as I have had trouble in the past with them and I only use the mp3 player for music, that is it. I need it to have an arm band, easy to use and good quality.

I'm thinking iPod shuffle or nano which are really nice. If they still make shuffles, it's like 100 dollars. Nanos are like 150ish.

I'm not sure if I want an iPod. I really want to stick with Sony however I do not like the designs they have out now

I have a Sansa player which is pretty nice. They come in similar size models as the others but have an option to add a chip that can increase the memory size.

The Zune looks pretty nice but I have no experience with it.

The nice thing about IPODS is that all the docking stations out there are basically made for them. The one I have doesn't "DOCK" right into the players, you need an attachment cord to connect it.

Good luck in deciding what you get. When I first read your post and saw Walkman listed, I was afraid you were still listening to cassettes....LOL

Sansa is a solid brand and the Zune is good too (as stated above). You have to look into the features and see what you want though, wi-fi connections, podcast capibility, etc.

I just like the iPod because I'm used to the brand, like the interface, and love having podcasts.

I know you want to stay away from iPods, but the new shuffles are great (or at least super convenient). They clip on and are about the size of a stick of Dentyne. No screen, though, and you're stuck with the headphones since that's where the controls live. I've got one I only use for working out but like it.

Podcasts? See, I don't even know what that is. I just need an mp3 player to listen music too BUT with a good battery life, like this one did

Haha yeah it sounds foreign but once you learn about things like that, those features can be great. I never used it until my newest iPod and I love it. It has great battery life by the way. You can get a 2gig nano (I think) for probably very cheap.

get a zune. its just like an iPod but costs about $40 less AND it has an FM tuner.

while a tuner seems trivial at first...why doesn't Apple include one?
plus at my gym, you tune to 88.3 FM to hear the TV's

I have a second generation iPod shuffle. I love it for when I am running, or climbing (as the case is now).

Course the older ones went on sale for like 50 bucks and now they have that new one. You may still be able to find an older one for cheap. My 2nd gen is half the size of the new one, and clips on too......

So that you buy their songs from iTunes and don't listen to the radio :)

Limewire gets you right around that though haha. That's pretty sweet about tuning in at your gym though! Do you like the Zune? I almost got one but i really wanted the podcast feature of the iPod and I guess I was used to it from my previous iPods. Does the Zune have podcast capability? If so, how do you upload them onto it?

yes, zune stores podcasts, mp3, photos, videos, and Zune 'channels' if you want.

i haven't messed with it, but you probably specify the podcasts you want with the Zune software.

zune does have wireless but I haven't messed with that either. I should though...there's some good homebrewing podcasts out there.

Yeah I would love to have wireless. iPod doesn't have that. I listen to a few good podcasts currently.
