Hi everyone,
I am new here, and I have started on a journey to lose weight, like most of you I pressume. Before I get into the technical details, I want to share what motivates me to work on my goals.
Yesterday I saw a video, and the guy said something interesting that I want to share, so let me paraphrase him: "in order to kick your bad habits, it doesn't help if you focus on the negative outcomes of that behavior, but you need to find a (positive) higher purpose that motivates you".
I have many motivations to lose weight. I want to be healthy, fit, look good. However, these motivations are true and they do help to some extent, but I must be honest and admit that this is not enough to motivate me to keep working continuously on this goal. I need something more concrete, something that I can visualize in my head, something that excites me. These are my two strongest drivers:
1. My first purpose is to triathlons again (after about a year), and not only that, I want to do longer distances and become faster then I ever was! I will do a triathlon every 1-2 months (until it is autumn, then I will do running/cycling competitions instead), and every time I try to improve my time. In this way I can actually experience the benefits that losing weight brings to me and I get driven to keep pushing myself further.
2. I want to get a girlfriend before the end of 2016, and I want to look the best I can. However, I will not wait before I am done. Despite having just started losing weight, I have already planned some dates (the first is coming Friday). I notice that this has really motivated me for the last two weeks. My goal is to have lost a bit of weight every date.
I choose not to procrastinate on both of these goals, because I don't want to put other areas of my life on hold (any longer, I have done this for a while) before I lose weight. Instead I want to force myself in these situations where it is obvious that losing weight is in line with my mission, so it is a natural choice to do this.
Now, for the technical details: my starting weight was 98 kg (two weeks ago), now I weigh 96.5 kg and my target weight is somewhere around 75-80 kg (it should be low (for speed), but also healthy (because health is important ). I am 1 meter and 86 centimeters long. I don't have a deadline (for reaching my target weight), I don't feel a need for that (though my estimation (again, not a deadline) is that I should be able to do this in 6-12 months). Instead, I will weight myself a few times per week, and I want to see this curve go down over the weeks. If the trendline is negative, it is good, if it is not, I know that I will have to work a bit harder. This means I should work on improving my habits, most importantly my eating/drinking habits and my exercise routine. I focus on building habits for the long term, not just this weight loss goal, because I want to stay on my weight.
While I work on this goal, I want to connect with you for (mutual) support. I expect to stay here for a while. I am curious to get to know you, and if you already have some feedback or questions, feel free to share it!
Kind regards,
IAGTT
